Baa Baa Black Sheep. . .

kurzyn, 17 November, 2011 at 12:21 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 37

So I was telling the girls at breakfast how I had discovered new ways to play with ds (on a thread here) and I was saying how I do sing to him.

He loves baa baa black sheep, and I insert his name in the song, one for the master and one for DS and one for. .

She said oh "apparently" its not baa baa black sheep anymore because its racist!!!!! She wasn't saying to me I cant sing that, just that thats not what the song is anymore.

So what is the song now, baa baa white sheep ?

FFS jesus there are sheep that are black WTF like, is nothing sacred anymore ?

Its not like im singing , Ini Mini miney Mo, catch a . . . .

    I thought it was "dame...

One for the master, one for the dame

And one for the little boy that lives down the lane

Dear Son and she puts his name in the rhyme, instead of saying "dame".

Apparently. If this story is real, of course.

I think a DS is a Nintendo. Like a modern Gameboy.

What would happen if someone was 'racist' enough to sing Baa Baa Black Sheep to the kids?

Ridiculous, but I bet they only had to change it because over-sensitive parents complained.

A few months ago I went for a job-interview in a pre-school and the children were may-pole dancing. Apparantly one child wasn't allowed to go into pre-school on the days when theywere maypole dancing because his parents thought of the maypole as a phallic symbol and didn't believe that it was suitable for children.

My son went to a nursery in an inner London borough where he was one of 2 white children out of 70-odd. They used to sing baa baa black sheep with no problems. I know they changed the words of eeny, meeny, miny, mo but then the N word is very offensive, whereas the colour of sheep isn't!

Would it be easy to remove ones child from a school that insisted on such misguided and ludicrous policies?

Some people clearly have to much time on their hands. The song is about a sheep. That sheep is black. That's it, no hidden reference.

And not only that, it's a rhyme about a black sheep who has overcome the negative characteristics associated with its wool colour to provide not one, not two but three - three! - bags of useful wool to the community, which it is happy to distribute equally, regardless of age or gender. If anything, it's a positive tale.

My friend works in a nursery and they sing the original version. God knows what some of the parents would say if Baa Baa Rainbow Sheep was sung in Brighton....

What a pile of overly-sensitive PC crap.

My mum used to work in a nursery, and they sang it properly, but then with some bizarre second verse about baa baa green sheep?!?

Not only do I work in a school but I'm mixed race , , it's the biggest loads of B-l-o-ks i've ever heard. They sing Baa Baa Rainbow sheep in nursery but when they come to us in reception we revert back to Black Sheep as we have never been told by the Head that we have to say other wise. I'm sure the sheep wouldn't be offended if I called him black (unless he was white of course, , lol, )

If they are going down that route then surely baa baa rainbow sheep would be offensive to gay people? What with the rainbow flag and all!

Disclaimer **obviously this is a joke and no offence intended **

It doesn't even sound right. Baa Baa bald sheep would sound better, and solve the problem of the colour issue.

But then are you being bald-ist?

This is one of the more ridiculous threads I have seen on hitched. There are no 'rules' about Baa Baa Black Sheep, my early years classes have and still do have the original version, 'rainbow sheep' is stupid, just don't sing the bloody song at all if it offends you!

And you can say policeman, my H is one, we call him one, I refer to him as one and always will. He is a man, he is police, therefore he is a policeman. Or a police officer, but seriously, if policeman or black (or white) sheep offends you, you need more to occupy your life.
