BCG Scar

summer_sparkles, 22 January, 2009 at 23:27 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 18

You know when random questions just pop into your head? I just wondered why you get a scar from your BCG injection? What actually causes your skin to scar? Just curious...

TIA

Well I remember a big needle and a crusty scab which hung around for a fortnight.

Remember the 'Ooh dont touch my BCG" protestations when someone came within a 10 feet radius?

Mine's top left arm. I'm right handed. Don't know if this makes a difference.

So did everyones scar or scab up then?

I thought mine did that as I was hit on the arm by some boys to 'make it scab' ?

I had a reaction to the skin test, but it didnt measure enough, so got the jag.

I have 2 scars actually, one from when I was a baby.

Its because the inject it under the skin rather than into the muscle. I think it causes a bubble and because its so close to the surface you see the scar

I had the jab but I didn't get a massive, bubbly scar. Only a tiny pink dot, less than the size of a pinhead.

The heaf test sounded like a stapler.

They did my mums wrong and had to do it again and did it so badly that weight shes put on since then has kind of grown round it so there's a big wide dip into where the scar is - kind of like a bellybutton but longer

The nurse told us not to touch the area after the jab otherwise it would scar. So everyone was scared if touching it. I of course ignored what I was told and rubbed the area as it was sore. All of my friends ended up with huge scars, andmine is a tiny ittle dot. Go figure.

Oh yeah I remember the scrams of "don't touch my BCG" followed by a whack on the arm by someone, I must be lucky I only have a slight teeny white scar which baraly shows on me coz I'm pale and freckly

It all got a bit melodramatic at our shcool that day, one girl passed out in french which had a kind of domino effect on the rest of us, I spent maths in the nurses office following an impressive swoon (so I'm told) into a teacher

Mine did too - apparently when it does that it's becasue you didn't need to have it as you already had immunity. Myself and 2 of my friends had a reaction from the skin test and after much prodding and poking they decided to give it to us anyway. All 3 of us had the same as you, much worse than the people that apparently were meant to have it.

Better safe than sorry I guess though!

Really? I'm so annoyed if that's true because mine was one of theonly ones that went gross and I have a bloody huge scar from it, and if I never had to have it in the first place...?
