I think Chloe from their forum is getting married on the beach in Cornwall if I remember rightly. I’m sure she can help!

There are not many beaches that have the license for you to actually marry on the beach, there are venues that have private beaches but one to look at is Tunnels Beaches in Devon. You can get married on the beach, under as pergola as legally the ceremony space must have a roof if you are having the legal registrar. A friend did it there and it was lovely as they also have a dining hall you can use for the reception right on the beach. the other option is to get married at the registry office the day before and then have a 'ceremony' on the beach, but you will likely need permission from the council to do this.

The rules around outdoors ceremonies has recently changed.

It used to be that outside needed to be under a fixed structure with a fixed roof -it can be open on all sides, it also had to be assessed and approved.

The change recently made is that you no longer have to have a fixed structure/ roof and can now marry anywhere in the grounds of a venue -- SO LONG as the venue already has a licence for ceremonies inside.

So if a venue has a private beach as part of their grounds that already has an indoor licence then you should be able to marry legally on that beach.

I am not sure if the open space still needs to be assessed and dedicated so you may not literally be able to get married anywhere in the grounds.

I’m getting married on the beach!

Are there any beaches/areas that are meaningful to you? Also whether you want a venue that will do all the food etc for you as a package or whether you would want to do this yourselves with different suppliers. That’s how we started our search and wound up with somewhere near to where we both went to University but that had a package that worked for us Smiley smile
We’ve decided we might to a registry office wedding beforehand… partly because we want my oldest friend to be our celebrant and it gets a bit disjointed getting the legal person to step in and out, but partly because our venue coordinator made the point that signing paperwork outside (even though they are licensed) on a windy beach is a bit perilous! We might still go down this route but considering options - we’ll still have the ceremony on the beach regardless of whether it’s legal though!
Some other things we’re considering - artificial flowers as they won’t wilt so much in the heat and wind; mics for the ceremony as our voices won’t carry so far outside, sandal and flip flops as heels will sink; time of year for best possible chance of a dry sunny day! Travel to plan beforehand - pick somewhere either close to home or where you already holiday/visit regularly otherwise travel costs to visit suppliers (florists, photographers, etc) will really add up.
Hope that helps a bit ☺️

Glad it helps! Try hotels and restaurants as often they double as wedding venues - ours is a hotel with a beach restaurant and that's what gets transformed into the reception area Smiley smile

Oh what a beautiful spot to be proposed to!! We went small on our guest list partly for this reason - but we’re lucky that a lot of our guests went to uni with us in Falmouth so are keen for any excuse to get back down to Cornwall!

The Polurrion in Cornwall had it's own private beach and is beautiful venue. I'd have loved to get married there but sadly it's too far for most of my guests

If you’re in Essex then look up the Roslin Beach Hotel in Southend on Sea. It’s literally on the seafront and lovely venue that’s perfect for a more intimate wedding!
