Bridal shop veil?

Gracef, 21 May, 2022 at 10:24 Posted on Wedding Attire 0 11
Hi all,
I was just wondering what the etiquette is around buying veils. I’m going to a bridal boutique to hopefully find my dress next weekend. I will want to try on a veil with my dress - but after seeing their prices I definitely can’t afford to buy one from the bridal shop. The ones on wed2be are much more affordable and will be what I want. How do I go about this, do I tell the bridal shop I’ve seen one elsewhere or will they be offended? Do I say I’m not sure if I want to add one and hope they forget at the fittings 😂. How would you/have you gone about this? x

You could say you’re still undecided and then when it comes to fittings, you may have found the one for you. It’s unlikely they will mention you buying your veil elsewhere as you aren’t required to! I will be buying my veil from Etsy, I found a floral hand stitched lace veil which is a bit different and it’s much more affordable than the ones in the bridal shops

Definitely try veils on with the dresses and just say to them you aren’t sure at this point and may add on later… I can’t see them forcing you to have one of their veils or not be happy if you don’t want one from them.
Just a little tip though, you could always ask if they’re selling off any of their try on veils as clearance, that’s how I ended up with my veil, I tried it on and I fell in love with it as it was perfect for the dress and then when they were checking for ordering it had actually been discontinued so I got the one in the shop at a reduced price. Me and my mum checked the veil over and it was in perfect condition so I decided to go for that one

Thank you for all your pointers and help! The ladies that are in the shop seem absolutely lovely so I’m hoping it’s not an issue at all. 3 days to go 😆

I ordered my dress a few weeks ago and when I tried on dresses I tried on with their sample veils, so I could get an idea of the dress with a veil. I haven't however bought my veil yet. When I was at the bridal shop they didn't even mention for me to choose a veil, but when I asked they said that generally, when I come back to collect my dress next year, that is when I would select accessories and a veil. Also when it came to paying the deposit for my dress they actually gave me credit of up to £200 to get my veil in store, as their gift to me, which was a lovely touch.

I wouldn't worry too much about your veil until you have chosen your dress and you go back to collect it and even then you are under no obligation to buy it at the bridal store. Many people get veils elsewhere.

Hope you have a wonderful time dress shopping Smiley smile

Thanks so much for that. Sounds like you had a lovely experience.
Can I ask, did you take any shoes of a similar height to what you will wear with you when trying on? X

Most bridal shops will have shoes there that you can use to get an idea of your dress with heels. I just used those, as I haven't picked out my wedding shoes yet. I know my friend who is also getting married also used the shoes in the bridal shop to try on dresses with.

You really wont need to take anything with you. I bought a strapless bra with me not realising wedding dresses have bras stitched in, so I didn't even need that in the end x

Haha that's good. I bought one specifically to try on dresses and ended up taking it off when I tried the first dress on. Hasn't been worn since haha x

I would take shoes that are of similiar size to what ypu would wear or if you have the shoes you are wearing take them some brides base their dress round the shoes x💗

It’s completely fine to try a veil in the shop and purchase elsewhere. Just say you’re still deciding on accessories. Most boutiques understand and won’t be offended.
