Can the pill help PMT?

Knownowt, 13 October, 2008 at 16:32 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 4

I just came close to losing my temper in the post office*, which is completely unlike me. I suspect PMT. My periods haven't yet returned after having a baby so I don't know when I'm due, but am betting it's soon. I really don't like the feeling at all. I used to be on the pill (Microgynon)- is going back on this likely to help the PMT? Rage rage rage.

* (The stupid woman gave me a stamp for my first letter but refused to give me one for my second letter on the basis that it had gone from 4.59 to 5.00pm as I stuck on the stamp and asked for another- not because her till had closed or something but purely out of principle. Is that not unbelievable?)

Feck, no wonder you have rage, the nerve of her, how utterly absurd. In answer to your question, I'm on Microgynon and whilst it may help with PMT i'm sure it's squished my libido, what little I had of it. My friend is a bit of a health nut and she reckons that the pill really screws your hormones up but i'm not up for trying the coil which is what she recommends.

I went on the pill initially to help with monster PMT - I can't remember which ones I was on but I gradually reduced it down / played with the different types of hormone until I found one that gave me the best balance of rage reduction without too many side effects

Woman in post office sounds like a prize numpty

In theory at least it definitely should as it stops your normal cycles and you don't have periods (you have 'withdrawal bleeds'), so you don't get the pre-period hormonal changes.

Mind you I'd have been fecked off with post office woman, PMT or no.

I was on Femodene and it definitely helped with PMT and period pains. Coming off it to try to get pregnant was a total shock, I became an evil horror for a week every month. One of the first signs that I was up the duff was the lack of PMT...

I loved Femodene, it seemed to really suit me, no weight gain, clockwork periods etc, but it's no good if you have high blood pressure or a history of DVT.

PMT or no PMT, I'd be pissed off with the Post Office woman. What a jobsworth!

Thanks everyone. I shall give it a go- I never used to suffer from PMT so am hoping that the pill will do its magic again.

The PO woman was extremely annoying, it's true, but nothing could justify the blind rage that consumed me ?
