Childrens entertainment

Skye, 8 January, 2022 at 14:15 Posted on Planning 0 7
Hey everyone, me and my h2b have been chatting about children and our wedding. We have 3 children and a lot of our guests will have children of various ages. Has anyone had anything at their wedding for children, like a childcare/entertainment package? We can't have an adults only wedding but we would like the adults to be able to relax and have fun without having to worry about what the kids are up to. I also thought about maybe having a curfew time later in the evening where we ask for it to be adult only. Does this sound OK or do you think a lot of people would leave if the kids couldn't stay the whole evening? Any ideas, suggestions or experiences welcome please

I don't think a separate childcare/ entertainment package will help much in helping parents relax and have fun as they are still going to worry abut their kids. From my experience kids usually have no trouble finding their own entertainment between themselves. Maybe some colouring books on their seats for them. As for a curfew you may find that parents will naturally apply their own depending on the individual child anyway, and yes if you apply a curfew then the parents will leave as they will have to unless they can get someone to come and collect the kids for what will be a couple of hours.

I went to a wedding that had a lot of outside space & they had some oversized outdoor games that the kids seemed to like. I think as there are a few kids they will probably hang out together & entertain themselves on the dance floor & using spaces under tables as imaginary forts if they are younger or sitting in corners on their phones if they're a bit older.

I didn't mention outdoor games as I think their wedding was in March so may not be suitable, otherwise - yes you are right garden games are useful for both young and old !

Our main room in the venue has sections so we are keeping one closed and putting a switch in their and a few puzzles, games and colouring bits. So the kids have their space bit is still within the secure area, so may be worth asking your Vene if there is a space you can use. Don't think is good to set curfew as people may leave early or not come at all for the eve. Kids are great at a wedding and they will make their own entertainment. For the meal we are making packs for them to occupy them at the table during speeches etc but otherwise they are pretty OK to do their own thing

My wedding is going to be in a marquee in an enclosed garden at the end of September this year so I was thinking of a bouncy castle and some garden games weather permitting, then parents can keep an eye on their children as we can have the sides marquee open.
Bouncy castles are relatively cheap, I have had quotes for less than £100. Some also do wedding packages where you can hire the bouncy castle and garden games together.
I agree with Charlotte regarding the curfew and guests leaving if their children have to leave at a set time.

I've seen a number of things done. Sometimes people do hire an entertainer, other times they put together party bags with games / colouring etc.

In my venue we were lucky that there happened to be a children's play area in the corner and that kept the children busy all evening! If space allows it would be possible to set up quite easily with somethings like a ball pool, Wendy house, toys etc. I've seen a reception in a church where there was space for all the smaller children to use rid-on cars up and down the sides and they were loving it!

Curfew is a no as some kids can be really clingy what about a puppet show or kids entrtainer this would keep them happy but the adults would enjoy to thats if its affordable for you to do x💗
