Yes I do, I use it more for the frangrance than softening. It takes ages for clothes to dry in our house and they smell musty and horrible if you dont use good fabric conditioner (one that the smell lasts for ages)
Yes I always do, on the rare occasion H puts washing on he never bothers. He says the washing tablets have it built in. But the washing doesnt smell at all if you dont use it. Also if I'm drying clothes on the radiators then the house fills with the smell of it, its lovely!
I do but I listened to an interview on the radio the other day about this woman who doesn't even use detergent. She said that your clothes will get clean just by being thrown around the drum and you'd only need detergent if you had exceptionally stained or mucky clothes.
She also commented that you only need fabric conditioner and water softener if you're using detergent.
Since then, I have halved the amount of detergent I'm using and halved the softener and I've not noticed any difference in my clothes at all. I'm not sure I'm brave enough to wash with no detergent at all just yet but its certainly saving a fair bit by not having to buy so much.
Now and then. I have a bottle of lenor that's been in the cupboard for about 6 months, it's handy for footie shirts and stuff that goes static. The powder I use has built in fabric softener so I don't really see the need to use it every time.
I had a friend that used to soak her clothes in fabric softener before washing them ? Goodness knows how much she'd get through!
Yes, I always do. never really thought about it tbh - my Mum always did, so I used it too when I started doing my own laundry (by hand, all of it except towels and sheets, from the age of about 12 - I was at boarding school and hated the way everything came back starched to within an inch of its life, if it came back at all).
The only time I don't use it is if I do a load of just towels (rare - they usually go in with the sheets) or of swimming stuff. Or handwashing on holiday, but that's because its usually swimming stuff, and I'm not going to buy a huge bottle of conditioner which I'll leave there for one or two items which I'll probably wash again at home before I wear it next.
You've made me think now - do I need conditioner? We live in an area of very hard water - does that make a difference? Conditioner makes it smell nice, but I like the smell of my laundry liquid anyway (Ecover). And when it's dried outside it smells nice and fresh. Hmm. Pondering now...
Me to. My mum told me never to use conditioner on towels as it stops them soaking up the water. Towels should always be tumble dried to, to make them fluffy.
That's interesting - I hadn't thought about the static. I am very static - I even get shocks off metal taps! Maybe I do need to continue using conditioner then.
I do. I get dreadfully static if I don't and I also find the clothes are easier to iron. I don't use it on towels because they are less absorbant (though I sometimes forget) but they get tumble dried so are soft enough.
My mum must use about a pint of softener on towels and dries them on a radiator, but then they don't absorb water. If I wash at her house I don't get dried lol
I usually use a 2 in1. On the odd occassion I don't use that, I may use fabric conditioner, but i've had a bottle festering in my cupboard for months! I buy the stuff but forget to use it.
I don't as I've never understood the point. You wash your clothes in order to clean them. The detergent cleans the clothes. So what does the fabric conditioner do? What it is it conditioning the fabric for?! I also use half the recommended amount for detergent and find it cleans my clothes just as well.
I use it occasionally, not every wash but I do definitely notice the difference, mostly because I'm drying everything indoors on an airer, trying not to use my tumble drier to save electricity. I like to use conditioner for bedding and H's cotton shirts for work.
I use 2-in-1 for the fragrance, but don't bother with a separate fabric conditioner. I can't figure out what fabric conditioner is supposed to do, apart from make towels waterproof...
I've never used fabric conditioner - I think it's a complete waste of money. I also only ever use half of the washing powder that it says on the side of the packet (ie one tablet instead of two). It saves me a fortune and it doesn't make a blind bit of difference to the cleanliness of my clothes.
No, I don't. I used to use it for the smell but now I use the Bold 2 in 1 thing which has a great frangrance in it anyway. I use tumble dryer sheets when using that though. Not sure if it makes a huge difference (certainly doesn't make the items dry quicker like it claims) but again it gives the washing a lovely smell.
Another no here. I hate the smell of them too, but then I hate most articifical fragrances (air 'fresheners' etc) I can understand using them to make towels softer but as that also stops them absorbing much water, it seems a bit pointless.
All the time, for everything I wash, including towels and handwashing. It doesn't smell of anything as I use a sensitive unperfumed one in addition to my non-bio washing powder but I can't stand the way clothes feel when its not been used.
I do, again mostly for the smell. I don't bother in the summer as I hang clothes out and they smell all fresh that way, but at the moment, I hang them out and four hours later they are still soaked and just smell musty.
Yes on clothes and bedlinen, not on towels. I get really bad static shocks too, the fabric conditioner doesn't stop them but it's worse if I don't use it and the clothes are all stiff and rough
I'm a bit confused about all this static people have. I've never had any static from my clothes, apart from an old fleece. Perhaps our house is just too damp for it.
