Does anyone break the no flushing toilet paper rule abroad?

I love hitched because of threads like this! ?

We went to greece last year, OH used to live there and knew about the no flushing rule, I was horrified! However I was scared of the maid so apart from the day I was really hungover out of both ends I stuck to the rules. OH did not..! If it were the time of the month I think I'd find it hard sticking to the rules as well!

I am so completely confused by this thread...

Where about's are you going again VT? I know some places specify you have to do this ie. Greece but if they do then you should have some sort of information pack in your room which will tell you about it so I wouldn't worry. Also, if you have a rep then they will let you know too.

We got an info booklet from Thomas Cook today which says in it no flushing toilet paper in Turkey please

Really? We've just booked our holiday to Turkey in June. Do not like the sound of that rule, especially with my OH!!! ?

We went to Rhodes last September and I ahted the no toilet paper down the loo rule. The airport was awful! No loo roll to flush anyway! And 4 toilets between the whole terminal!

In our aprtment I am sure I used three times as much loo roll, once to wipe, and twice as much to wrap up what I'd wiped before putting it in the 'poo-bin' as it became affectionately know.

I am going to Turkey next month and have not previously been warned of this! I have been to Greece though and I think I just flushed my toilet paper. I tend to think that if the toilet can cope with *human waste* then it can manage toilet paper. I hope so anyway, otherwise I'll have an embarassing call to the hotel reception to tell them I've blocked the toilet...

I have now bought actual scented dog poo bags off ebay. £1.99 for 200.

I always remeber reading a magazine about someone who went to Greece and thought that they were not only supposed to put thier loo roll in the bin but thier poo too. ?

I have been to Greece 4 times and each time have forgotton to put my loo roll in the loo on many occasions- nothing drastic seems to have happened.

The problems with flushing paper down the loo aren't immediate to the user - the toilet system can cope, it's the sewer system that can't. I have never been anywhere that had a rule like this, but I have been places where loo roll isn't used full stop, so I guess, after that, at least having some and putting some in the bin wouldn't be so weird.

I didn't purposely ignore it, but you would go for a wee and automatically wipe and throw it in the loo! I found it impossible to remember!!

I flushed in Greece as well even tho I knew I wasn't meant to, but I was younger and less socially responsible then. Now i'm going to be a married lady and everything and trying to make babies and stuff so I think I should follow the rules ?

It's literally just a plastic bin with a carrier bag in it with shitty tissue chucked in. Not too bad in your appartment but when you go to the nightclubs and it;s just strewn all across the floor... grim.

alot of holiday destinations do it- have you not seen it before? I think they may do it in Egypt and Morrocco as well as Greece and Turkey

To the OP - number 1's either get binned or drip dried. Number 2's get flushed, or binned when you can see the cleaning ladies getting close, then leaving the room sharpish. I once opened the bin in a bar to find that the previous occupant had just been left a special monthly holiday gift...
