does anyone else hate going to the hairdressers.

peanut, 17 December, 2008 at 14:22 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 15

Gaaah, I have 40 mins till I have to subject myself to an hour of utter terror at the hands of my hairdresser. I don't know what it is that makes me feel so sick, but I would rather go and have root canal treatment at the dentists than go and get my hair cut.

my H just looks at me,thinking I am mad, as someone else is washing my hair etc so I am pampered for an hour but I don't see it like that one bit. I always fear that they will find something lurking in my head and then annouce to the whole place that they can't do my hair till I get it cleared up etc etc. I come out in cold sweats over going.

Am I alone?

I hate having my hair done as well.

I really dislike people messing with my hair full stop - I have some friends who used to pick up a brush and start brushing my hair as they talked to me, and I'd get really stressed at it!

I hate it too. I dislike being centre of attention, having to make small talk, having to look at myself in the mirror while it's being done, the awkwardness about tipping... loads of things. I usually like the end result though.

I hate it too. The chitchat, the mirror, the uncertainty, the cost, and most of all the blowdrying - so fecking boring!

Me. i'm going today to get my fright-wig finally seen to.

i hate going to hairdressers because over the last few years, i have never, ever had a haircut that i can successfuly tame once i get home. and i always end up with cuts i can't manage and don't want, no matter what i say to them, or what level of complexity i have gone into re: haircut order.

i also worry that they will announce i have something horrendous with my hair or head, or that i'm going bald.

and because i don't wear my glasses during the cut, i also fret that they are hacking about at my hair, merrily ignoring what i've asked for. (mostly because that's what they do anyway).

anyway, chin up, stiff upper lip and only a few hours until it's all over and done with.

    (wibble)

I don't like going because I don't like looking at my ugly face in the mirror for such a sustained length of time. Also the girls in the salon always make me feel really old, probably because compared to them I am. I hate the small talk as well although the previous few times I went I was pregnant so talking about that saved me from all the "so, you got any holidays booked then?" tedium.

I do always feel great when I've been though and my greys are banished under a ton of brown hair dye. Unfortunately I don't know when I'll get to go next as I was meant to go before YMR Mk2 was born, he was born 2 days before the appointment though so I look like I've been dragged through a hedge backwards ?

I don't really mind it, but I'd rather not sit in front of the mirror for so long. I always end up seeing all my spots or realising my makeup is blotchy or something. I got my hair cut yesterday - first time since September. My fringe was... interesting! My hairdesser never knows when to stop talking, so I'm never bored. Yesterday I heard all about her problems with the contraceptive implant and why she's having to have it removed. I won't post the details, it was really far TMI! But she was telling me that they get all sorts of phobias coming in - she said some people sit with tears rolling down their face because they're so scared!

Absolutely HATE the mirror, hate the small talk, hate the fact that I always seem to get the one with the hangover and hate the fact that 1/2 inch always turns into about 2!

I wish I had lovely hair but unfortunately it's mousey and wavey and needs a lot of hairdresser time ☹️

Well I am back.. Although I realised a huge part of it is sitting analysing every wrinkle on my face for an hour in the mirror.. Small talk was ok, nothing too much, I got on the subject of X factor and it lasted a good 20 mins of discussion!

But the result... is fabulous, Its one of the best cuts I have had and it only cost 20.00 for a wash/cut and blow dry. I gave the girl a £5 and she wouldn't accept it as it was just too much, but I insisted as it wasn't as bad as I had been expecting!

I hate it too and only go twice a year, if that. They always look at me like I'm a retard when I say I don't use 'product' on my hair- I have very good reasons too!

I hate it too which is why I only go once or twice a year. I cant be doing with the mindless chit chat.

Glad you like your cut though.

I am not keen. I generally only get my hair cut once a year although it has been 2 years in between cuts before now. Last time the only reason I really enjoyed it was because it was time out from the children (a rarity). The time before I went and the woman washing and straightening my hair (would have done it at home except for the children) spent the entire 40 minutes bollocking me for improper care of my hair and that it was too long and therefore wasted and in dreadful condition (it wasn't) and then whinged when I didn't leave a tip... I was damn close to not ruddy paying. Too smegging expensive too.

Well, I have long straight hair and get it cut as infrequently as possible - mainly because it's expensive and they always whinge / are obsequious about the fact it's long.

Anyway, H does my fringe and colour for me, and he's honestly the best hairdresser I've ever had. He's so gay (except he's not, but he is like a gay best friend with benefits) ?

    I really hope he doesn't lurk ?

I tell Mr P he is 90% woman. Alas the missing 10% that is all man is the bit where taste and artistic talent lie (but thankfully, of course, necessary manly things reside) ?.
