Dogs at Weddings

HappyBrownCars792, 1 of October of 2017 at 19:37 Posted on Planning 0 7

Hello all!

We are currently searching for venues and really wanted our ridiculously well behaved 6 year old Chocolate Labrador to be the ring bearer. We have found dog friendly venues that we like, but I've been told that East Riding Council (which is where the majority of the venues are) do not allow dogs in the actual ceremony. Even if it's a dog friendly venue, apparently registrars don't allow it. Does anyone have any experience of this? Is your dog involved in your wedding or have you been to a wedding with a dog G the ceremony? I'm wondering if it's just the East Riding Council or if it's the law? I can't find that much information on it. Any help would be amazing! Thank you so much!

I'm sure it's not the law, it will be the registrars decision. It might be easier to get the dog into a church instead. Or see if switching areas helps. What do the West Yorkshire registrars based in Leeds say?

The other way around this is to use a celebrant instead. Then you'd just pay £50 to have the legal paperwork done at the register office a few days before the wedding.

I'm having my two dogs in the ceremony as flower girls Smiley laugh

We're having a registry office legal bit (without the dogs) in the morning very casually (jeans and t-shirt, minimum witnesses type thing as it doesn't count in our minds) and then celebrant wedding in the afternoon.

I have seen plenty of doggies at weddings and it is not part of (against) the law but it is one of those things where it is very much down to your local authority as to whether or not they are ok with it, and then of course even if they are you will have to find a venue that are also ok with it.

I have seen dogs just attending with the guests and also dogs running down the isle delivering the rings, or just visiting during the drinks reception after the ceremony. So if your registrar and venue are not ok with it then a compromise could be a short visit by the doggie during the drinks reception
