Dress Doubt?

Hi all,
I’m a bit stuck! I thought I had my ideal wedding outfit planned out (a white dress with a lace angel sleeve and small train, long lace veil and flat shoes) but now I am rethinking. We are eloping to Gretna Green and it will just be us and I’m thinking of a completely different style ( White/Ivory midi dress with underskirt, small lace veil/pearl headband, heels). This sudden doubt has thrown my perfectly planned outfit out the window and I feel like I’m back to square one because a long dress and veil would look beautiful in photos but the more vintage style is more me, simple and I wear midi dresses often. Please tell me I’m not alone with this?!

You are not alone! I have a dress pattern and most of the material... and now I'm wondering if I've gone too soon. Should I have waited and looked for another pattern? Am I sure about the material?
I need to stop looking at wedding dress websites and trust myself.
Is there a way you can try both outfits and see which you like better? Or even just go to a bridal shop and try on some similar styles. I'm sure they will understand you are just looking and trying to find out what suits you best. Good luck!

Sorry you Changed your mind about what you wear but its about what you feel is you and is comfortable totally agree with lizzie you still have time go and try the style you want and if its you go for it i brought my dress thinking i wanted fitted if it wasnt for it getting ruined i would have took it back my new one is floaty at bottom totally not what i wanted at first but love it and it was under £70 xx good luck with what you decide x💗

Your dress sounds beautiful! The dress I originally wanted was very classic and traditional or as my friend said “churchy” haha! Now I’m looking at a completely different style and I’m so concerned because if I pick one or the other, will I regret not picking the other style?

I know it’s so difficult! I love the idea of how renewals and Gretna Green do hand fasting ceremonies, I think in the future we could travel back there for a handfasting ceremony, I could maybe wear a shorter dress (ie. The second dress) for that? And that way I get to wear both styles? I’m so lost! Ugh planning! Haha xx

I know and we are only having small weddings i think the bigger wedding plans would be easier but thats not us im struggling to agree with where we do it the plan is registry but i found a lovely place near us that do elopements he h2b said no we have booked the deposit for registry but i love the place we found x💗

Is there a way to get the registry deposit back? Our plan is eloping to Gretna but in the case where it can’t happen, our back up is my local Catholic Church - fiancé isn’t too keen on the back up idea x

It’s a shame you can’t get that deposit back - I’m hoping maybe your fiancé can change his mind because this is the big day and it usually only happens once, it’s only right that your special day is perfect for you and is what you want! X

I’ve decided to take a plunge ( I suffer from quite bad social anxiety so this is something that I will and am struggling with) and book an appointment at a bridal store to try on numerous styles and see what suits me, what I’m comfy in and what will be better for our day

That's a really good idea, especially if you haven't tried any styles on yet - you may find that what you think you'll love, you absolutely hate, and vice versa!
If you struggle with anxiety, I'd either go alone or with one person you can trust to be honest about how you look and not try to push you into buying something you're not comfortable in. It doesn't matter how good you look in a dress, if you don't feel comfortable, it's not the right one.
I got pushed to wear something 'more bridal' and 'outside my comfort zone', but went with something I felt comfortable in and also felt I looked good in, and I loved it. (I also picked something in viscose/cotton, and I've since dyed it and it's now at the dressmaker's being shortened, so I can wear it in future as a formal dress! Maybe you could buy a long dress and then get it shortened for a vow renewal or whatever later on? That way you would get both looks but only have to buy one dress!)

I often wear midi dresses for work as I’m an admin so I know they suit me but I’ve rarely ever worn a long dress. I actually wore a long white dress with pink floral detailing and a train for my sisters wedding (bizarre for a bridesmaid to wear white but my sister requested it!) so thats the only time I’ve worn something even close to a ‘wedding dress’ style x
