Eloping with no guests - just me and him!

DiamondInTheRough, 10 October, 2017 at 14:30 Posted on Honeymoons & Getting Married Abroad 0 9

Hi Everyone,
I've been engaged for 2 years now and the more we think about it, the more we want our wedding to just be about us. No family , no friends, just us. We've decided we want to elope, just find some strangers to witness the wedding or arrange witnesses with the hotel. A wedding and honeymoon all rolled into one.

This will ease a lot of tension and stress, as we just want to be married but don't want the drama of everything that comes along with it. Maybe when we get back we'll arrange a party for everyone to come to then.

I really just don't know where to start, can anyone share their own experiences , especially if you didn't have anyone coming with you!?... where did you go abroad and get married, what did you have to do before hand, any good recommendations for areas/hotels etc.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks all Smiley smile

Hi we got married in Las Vegas - check out my photos I posted last week, not one bit tacky and it was the best wedding I have ever been to. The Bellagio hotel 'Just the two of you' package :-)

Is there any other reason to why you want to elope to get married? It's anyway romantic and you will have a great experience. Make it a journey, like a road trip or sailing. Enjoy every moment of anticipation till you reach your destination to get married. I'm not an expert in recommendations, so, I leave it there.

I wish you the very best.

Just to say I'm following this thread as we're eloping too! I don't have a family and his don't really agree with our religion, so it feels false to spend a lot of money on a ceremony etc for a room of cynics.

The plan is to arrange a small, just-us-two-and-strangers-for-witnesses ceremony, then head straight for the airport. We'll not tell anyone til we get back. They're expecting a big summer wedding but that's just not us at all - and there's no way we could afford it, either.

I'd love to hear from people about their elopements/planned elopements!

If you both want this kind of wedding, then do this way! It should be your choice and your day! I know people who decided to get married without anyone. All money they had saved for the wedding, they spent for travelling. And they are happy! So, don't worry what other people will think, do what you want and what you will keep in mind and remember with a smile on your face!

You need no advice for these things, just follow your heart and do what makes you feel happy and together. Sometimes its good to take the offbeat path in life (speaking from own experiences).

I've never believed in traditions or wedding etiquette - seriously, sod that!

We're getting married in the middle of the Arizona desert in August next year as part of our 3 week road trip around the States. Getting married isn't ever about a big wedding, it's about two people, in love, committing to one another. For me, there's nothing greater then being made to feel small by nature. I like exploring and that's exactly what we're doing on our wedding day.

As to our planning process - well, we had a look at our budget before anything. Decided what we could afford. We then looked at venues in the UK, you know, make sure we wanted to tie it in with a holiday. We did.

From there, we searched locations in Europe and the States. And did a quick research on how easy it is to get married in those places. We picked the States, the legal side is fairly simple and not over complicated. I suggested Vegas (Red Rock Canyon) but other half wasn't keen.

So we opted to plan a road trip with all the places we wanted to go, Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, Page, Zion, Bryce Canyon, Vegas, Yosemite, San Fran, Big Sur and fly back from LA. Then it was just selecting which outdoor location.

This isn't for everyone, but we opted for Lake Powell in Arizona because there isn't anything like that in the UK. We don't need to book a venue - because it's outside.

We spent a long time searching for a photographer - why? Well, it's us two, an officiant, our photographer and a witness - the photos have to do the day justice.

A lot of our thoughts came from Instagram. There's a lot of wonderful photographers throwing caution to the wind, and exploring with couples on there wedding day.

We've booked a really cool venue for when we get back, food trucks and a band to throw our wonderful friends and family an after-wedding party. We will be wearing our wedding 'attire' and we're debating having our closest friends as bridesmens and groomsmen.

Personally - I'm asking all the sh*t of wedding day rules - and figured who cares about the rules?

I am looking for a romantic, stunning place to elope with my fiancé no guests. Any suggestions? Warm weather. I can’t do the hug wedding in NY. I need some direction where to start.
