Engagement Rings

Helen, 26 January, 2021 at 22:33 Posted on Planning 1 51
With a lot of stress for lots of us trying to plan at the moment, I thought it would be nice to have some happy posts! Share pictures of your engagement rings and tell
Me how your other half proposed! Here’s mine and he proposed in a car park ?? basically we knew within hours of meeting we would
marry one day so we actually planned the wedding (pre Covid) before we got officially engaged and we chose the ring together and he proposed on the way home with our children in the car ?? we have postponed four times so far! Engagement Rings 1

What a lovely idea, I LOVE hearing engagement stories!

This is my ring (I have ugly hands so this is the best I have lol!!)

We met for our first date outside Fenchurch St station in London, Fast forward 2 and half years and on the day he proposed he said he was taking me to a roof top bar for my birthday and as we walked outside Fenchurch St, 10 of our closest family were standing on the spot where we met and then he got down on one knee! It's not everyone's cup of tea but having our family celebrating with us was amazing and my fiancé hired out an area in a bar afterwards for Cocktails, was perfect!

Such a lovely thread! This is my ring which my fiancé had made and where we got engaged in October 2020. We were in the Lake District in the middle of nowhere about to have breakfast and watching the sunrise with this gorgeous view in the garden of our cottage, snuggled in blankets, and as we were admiring the view, he got down on one knee ?

    Such a lovely idea.
    Here’s mine Engagement Rings 4
we got engaged exactly 2years after our first date (in time of eat out to help out) I came home from an afternoon of running errands and could smell dinner but was so shattered I walked straight past my BF and to the fridge for wine. As I turned around bottle in hand he walked over to me ( I assumed for a kiss) and got down on one knee.

We call my diamond featherlight as it has a slight inclusion. I love it as it’s the exact ring I mentioned to friends during a hen the weekend before I’d want. Even down to the round brilliant cut, twist and D grade diamond - guess he knows me well as he’s already picked up my ring by then. My ER is currently with the jeweller for matching the shoulders against my wedding band. Can’t wait to get it back- will be a great pre- valentines present .

    Ah beautiful rings ladies!
My OH took me on trip around the Cotswolds to show me where he grew up, took me to his Dad's grave so I could meet his dad (he passed away when OH was 4), then we went to Bourton on the Water, sat by the water and he had bought afternoon tea and a bottle of fizz then got down on one knee and asked ?

Love seeing everyone’s gorgeous rings! I’ve always loved yellow so when I saw this pear shaped yellow diamond I knew it was the one...much like the man ?

Actually, it was me that did the proposing. Fancy meal was booked, AirPods engraved with the question (diamond ring didn’t feel right for a fella?) all planned and prepared..and it ended up actually happening in a grotty pub most famous for its links to Jack the Ripper! That’s romance for you ?

What a nice idea Smiley smile

My other half and I got engaged in June 2018 when in the Dominican Republic whilst on holiday. We went there for my birthday and had a lovely excursion planned that day, had a great day out and then returned to the hotel for dinner. After dinner, we went for a walk along the beach and that's where he got down on one knee!! So romantic, secluded and so beautiful. We spent the next week in the Dominican in the sunshine!

(photo below wasn't taken in the Dominican, but in the Lake District - I just liked my nails in this pic haha) Smiley smile

This is such a lovely thread! We got engaged in November 2020 on our 2 year anniversary. Wasn't very romantic but typical us I guess. Other half chose the ring - amethyst is my birthstone - and just dropped the box off on my desk (WFH life during Covid ??‍♀️) said 'im not romantic, but here it is - what do you say?' Wedding booked for November 2022 - Gretna Green - hopefully Covid will all be over by then ?

We got engaged in September after 5 years of being together and a LOT of hint dropping (I'd nearly given up) but he finally proposed to me on the top of Haystacks (a big hill in the Lake District) in September last year. I think he felt under pressure to get me the right ring as I'm a jewellery designer and I create engagement and wedding rings on a daily basis as part of my job! But he ended up having secret meetings with my dad (who's also in the jewellery industry) and designed me a ring Smiley smile so proud of him! It's a ceylon sapphire that I've been admiring in my dad's stone collection since my childhood Smiley smile
The weddings booked for November 2022 and I'm so eager to get stuck in and start planning!

Ahhh what a nice thread this is! Your rings are all GORGEOUS!

Here is mine. We went ring window shopping aaaaaaaages ago so we could find out my ring size and I could decide what kind of ring I liked (I said to the assistant that I wanted a plain and simple design, she kept telling me 'no, no no, the words are classic and elegant!' Smiley xd ). He then went ring shopping by himself a few months later to choose one he thought I would like.

He proposed on 18 December 2020, the day I finished work for Christmas. We'd planned a 'date night' at home to celebrate me finishing work for the year, so we got all dressed up and had a fancy meal planned. At the start of the evening, he grabbed a bottle of wine we had been saving out of the cabinet, and I jokingly said 'is it a special occasion?', and he said 'yes, it is' and dropped to one knee with the ring. A lovely private, perfect proposal for us - and yes, I love the ring!

All of your rings are beautiful!

My OH proposed on Christmas Day! After a couple of years dropping hints, I was losing hope and started to think we'd be the couple that never got married... For some reason though, I had a feeling a few months before Christmas that he was going to get me a joke engagement ring (picture is also attached). (Joke presents have always been a tradition in my family, we call them 'tree' presents because they stay under the tree until the evening of Christmas day when you're back in your comfies after dinner, playing games). I said to him when I thought he'd buy me this joke that I'd find it so hurtful (every time I hinted at a ring, he would always try and brush it off like he wasn't interested), but little did I know that he was going to back the joke up with the actual thing!

It turned out that he actually wanted to propose on our holiday in Spain for my birthday but that was rescheduled due to Covid but he couldn't wait any longer. Smiley heart I love my ring and him so very much and am so looking forward to our big day!

Don't mind my ugly hand in the photo (I had to hide my nails as they weren't done due to the salons being shut! :'( )

A thread I can be part of ?... got engaged on Christmas Day so can’t even book the wedding yet. We’ve been together for 10 years (I think I’m a LOT older than most others on here but just as excited) and I’d really given up that it would ever happen for me.

He gave me a fairly big Christmas present, I unwrapped to find a box from a local jeweller. Far too big for jewellery so I thought it was a candlestick or something. When I opened it there was another wrapped box inside, again too big for a ring and I thought it could be earrings. All this time my OH was sitting on the floor in front of me but I couldn’t look at him as I didn’t want him to see me upset at getting a box from a jewellers that wasn’t the magic ring.

Then there was a 3rd wrapped box inside No2. Now that was ring sized and I felt slightly sick that it would be just another sort of ring. Even at this stage I really didn’t think it would actually be THE ring. It was, he asked me and I cried of course. I’ve been in shock ever since and the smile hasn’t left my face. Just want to get a date now!

What a nice thread, so nice to hear everyone’s stories and see everyone’s lovely rings!
My partner proposed on the beach in Dorset, my favourite place in the UK and where he asked me to move in with him ? it was my delayed 30th birthday trip, and the first stop on our little road trip round the UK in September. We got up for a walk on the beach at sunrise and he had prepared a breakfast picnic. I had no idea he had actually been listening to my not so subtle hints on what rings I like, turns out he had been keeping a note section on his phone on things I’d said I liked!

So lovely to see such beautiful rings. I'll treasure mine forever - I never thought I'd say a ring matches my personality/me as much as I do about my engagement ring! It's a peacock sapphire so it also changes between blue/teal/forest green in different lights.

My OH proposed by accident in the Lake District in August last year. He'd told all our family to stop bugging him about the holiday because he wasn't going to propose and then in the moment he felt it was right. He proposed without a ring so we had the wonderful experience of designing this together.

I'm loving this thread and so many beautiful rings! It's lovely to hear some happy stories in the midst of all the gloom.

We got engaged in 2019. My OH took me out for dinner at our favourite country pub - he'd been away on a work conference over the weekend, so he said it would be nice to go out for a meal when he got back to make up for missing the weekend. We had a lovely meal and on the way home, we stopped off at our favourite place for a short walk - we often did that pre Covid, so I didn't think anything of it until he got down on one knee and pulled out a ring! Sadly, the ring didn't fit, and was too big to resize, but he swapped it for another one my size which I love just as much.

We originally planned to get married in February 2020, postponed to June so that one of my overseas friends could come and then had to postpone again due to Covid. But finally managed a small wedding in July, so now I have a wedding ring to go with this beauty.

We’d been together for just over 4 years and to be honest I was starting to think it would never happen. Despite the chats about the future for us, there were always rumours about commitment issues from his side, so I always had a little doubt in my mind. BUT he proposed on Christmas Day with my kiddies and Mum there. The boy did good! It was the last present under the tree and just perfect! I was so shocked that I was an emotional wreck and pretty much cried through the whole thing! Poor guy! Ha! Anyways now planning our wedding for 2022! Smiley smile Happy planning brides to be xx

My engagement ring is a butterfly. (Before we met, I was on a mission to see and photograph every species of butterfly in the UK. Now we do it together!). We were on a picnic on Exmoor and he'd hidden the ring in a packet of Cadbury's Nibbles. This was 2019. Smiley smile

We got engaged in September last year after 12.5 years together!! (We met at 18). We had a picnic by the river where we had our first ‘date’. A gorgeous sunny day, after lunch, we were relaxing and he said ‘ooh let’s get up and have a stretch’ before saying about how long it had been since we last visited the meadow and then he got down on one knee. I burst out crying haha.

Randomly I do. I have a round Opal ring with moissanite baguettes clustered around it. It was a gift from an ex so relegated to my room at my mums house.

I do love that ring though and for a time with that ex I’d planned on upgrading to a centre Opal stone flanked by two diamonds for my engagement ring ( I’m October and he was April). So happy that I’m not the only one that thinks it’s a beautiful combination- gorgeous ring!

My fiance designed this ring during lockdown 1 in the UK becuase "he couldn't find anything unique enough". He planned for months the proposal and took me away for a few nights to a private holiday lodge in September 2020. He proposed under the stars with candles, lanterns, fairy lights and a curated spotify playing of our favourite songs.

My other half wrote me a love letter which he done when we first got together and at the end of the note it said 'one last thing' and I looked up and he was on one knee and popped the question. It was done during lockdown on our 7 year anniversary at home, so very cosy and romantic in my eyes.

Love reading all the proposal stories ? here’s my ring and the pebbles are because we were on a private beach by Loch Ness. We had gone to visit my parents for a holiday last July after not seeing them because of lockdown. Gorgeous sunny day so we all went for a walk with the dog - the dog ran down to the water and the two of us followed him and next thing I knew, my OH was down on one knee! Loved being able to celebrate with my family straight away ?
