Grammar help please

Spamboule, 23 of October of 2008 at 18:06 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 13

Sorry if this is a bit WP related, but given the fact that many planners are uable to differentiate between your/you're etc I thought I'd be better off over here ?

OH has written the menu for our wedding breakfast but has put capital letters on each word. I think it looks wrong, but he thinks there are occasions when you can capitalise each word.

For example: Beef & Venison Casserole with Mashed Potato & Roasted Winter Veg

It looks wrong to me, but I am happy to be corrected - can anyone help please?

Many thanks in advance

I think that's called title case (as opposed to upper or lower case) and is okay for headings and suchlike.

    If it's a heading I think it's fine, if it's a description then no.

Actually my advice is to not to worry over trivial stuff like this as

    a. nobody will notice
    b. if they did notice nobody will care
    c. you will not remember this sort of stuff afterwards anyway

I couldn't agree more. It was only because I originally printed them landscape that OH complained as he felt they should be portrait ?

I don't care what they look like. I don't even care if we have them or not!

I can't comment on actual grammar, but I think it looks better your hubby's way.

That's the way we would do them and we make hundreds every year!

Ooooooh, spurious capitalisation, especially on menus, is an absolute pet hate of mine <gnashes teeth>

But I agree with Emma Numbers.

It is technically only supposed to be for titles and headings as far as I'm aware, but I must admit I like it. It's quite a modern and fashionable at the moment

Thanks to everyone for their thoughts.

SophieM - I agree with you. I hate random capital letters appearing in words but maybe not to the extent of warranting a complaint ?

I have 'won' this round against OH for those who were interested!

Can I Admit To Liking Title Case? ?

I feel its appropriate in matters of matrimony.
