Groom suits

Jessica, 29 March, 2022 at 22:45 Posted on Wedding Attire 0 10
Recently got engaged and starting to plan our wedding however my partner says I should have no say in the suit he chooses to wear, however I would like a say in the matter or at least go suit shopping with him when the time comes and the final decision will be his anyway but he’s adamant that he wants to do it on his own, just wondering how other people got around this did you just let your other half pick out their own wedding suits or did you have a say in the matter to?

We have just bought the suits this past weekend. My dad and the groom are the only ones wearing same suits. My Fiancé didn’t make too much fuss about going himself, in the end it was me who found a shop locally. He did do some research but not as much as me! My mum is quite involved and bought my dress so we know what will suit that look. We took my parents with us to look. And anyway I paid so because of that I defo have a say. LOL.
I would explain it as you would like to see what he is considering to make sure it fits with the theme of the day and your plans for your outfit which is traditionally not seen by the men beforehand. I would also do you own research and send pics to him to plant ideas in his mind! Good luck

My fiancé is doing it all himself - he’s really keen to get a nice suit and I’m very happy to have one less thing to sort out! I didn’t even think about going with him and it isn’t something I would want to do anyway - he’s got no say on what I wear so seems fair he sorts his own outfit.
We have talked about colours though - he originally wanted black and I’ve managed to talk him round to navy which will work well with our colour scheme (and I think be more useful for future wear). Can you compromise by talking re colour/material to make sure it works with the colour scheme etc?

I don't have a groom as I am marrying a woman but my fiancee is having a bespoke suit made and I don't know what it is going to be like. However, she knows the wedding colours and she took a trusted friend with her, so I trust them not to choose anything that would look stupid. I'm looking forward to the surprise.

Does he have a sensible friend that he can take with him? Ideally, someone who has seen your dress so you can coordinate.

Similar to Jane, I've just talked about colours with FH based on what will go with the decor and our theme - so I know he'll be in a tan suit.

The exact suit I'm happy for him to choose himself if he wants. He's already said he doesn't really want to wear a jacket (it'll be hot in the middle of summer) but loves a waistcoat so we've filtered that down to the the other guys in the wedding party as some are on 'my side' and if he's not wearing a jacket we thought it would look best if all the guys are just in waistcoats.

I think it's completely reasonable to want to have some sort of say and set some parameters as the colour/level of formality affects the overall wedding look but ultimately he's the one that got to wear it and feel comfortable in himself Smiley smile

My fiancé is picking the suit himself. All he has told me is that he is thinking navy. I told him the colour of the bridesmaids dresses incase he would like to match with a shirt or maybe a tie. I'm leaving it up to him. I happy as long as he is comfortable. Although he did say he was wearing shorts 🙈🙈🤣🤣. But that was just to see how I'd react 😊🤣

This is the same as my other half. He first said, why should I not see your dress but you see my suit? So I explained, it’s not that I want to see it but with a bride it’s pretty much known that the dress will be white or ivory, whereas I need him and the groomsmen to at at least coincide with the bridesmaids and colour palette if the wedding. He agreed and said he was happy to agree on colours but otherwise he would like me to not see the suit. I’m fine with that 😊.

I personally think my groom had no choice in my dress so I wouldn't encroach on his suit-buying. He has chosen what he likes and I'm good with that. Notably, I know it's blue, which I really wouldn't have chosen, but it's his suit and his day just as much as mine, so that's been his choice.

For me, I'd be upset if he even hinted at what dress he wanted me in, so his suit, his choice. Xxx

Talk it out gently—say you want to join to match the wedding vibe. Check https://www.azazie.com/all/bridesmaid-dresses together. You can pick bridesmaid dresses and reference the color scheme to coordinate his suit with the overall style, making it easy for him to choose.
