Hi everyone,

Some of you will remember that I organised a raffle on Wedding Planning in 2009 and I managed to get £4000+ worth of prizes from HIBs, Hitchers themselves and external sources. We raised quite a bit of money for 2 different charities so it was worth while and some of the prizes were worth quite a bit of money including Rock the Frock sessions, Engagement Shoots and jewellery to name just a few.

The raffle does involve a lot of work and I vowed never to do it again but here I am suggesting it! Another Hitcher has agreed to help with everything and it will be run a bit differently from before as well.

So I want to guage interest before I start contacting prize donators because if there isn't enough interest from Hitchers wanting to buy raffle tickets then it's not feasible to do again.

Here is the last raffle thread so you can see what was on offer before https://www.hitched.co.uk/Chat/forums/t/161165.aspx.

As I've said it will be done slightly differently this time to make organising it a bit easier and also to give people a higher chance of winning the prizes they want. You'd buy a raffle ticket (not decided on the cost yet so will discuss that later with everyone) and one ticket would give you one raffle number against a specific prize. This means people aren't going to win a prize that isn't wanted or is location specific because no point in winning a cake from Scotland if you live in Devon!

Any thoughts are appreciated so feel free to post whether this is worth while or not.

Thanks

Lynsey

I would be up for it!

i'd prefer a raffle to a silent auction tbh. as more people (especially people with none existant budgets like me) could spend £20 (or whatever) on tickets where as a silent auction i would feel i was priced out of bidding before i started.

could you number the prizes eg.

    0 photoshoot

    1 free bridal hair

    2 free flower arrangement etc

    3 wedding cake

then i could buy £20 (or whatever) worth of raffle tickets for the bridal hair and those raffle tickets would be numbered between ****. the flowers would be raffle numbers between ****. the cake **** etc

t you could do each draw with specific numbers through a number generator online?

    or is that too complicated?

I'd definately be up for a raffle especially if I am able to purchase tickets for specific prizes as my wedding will be done by then and wouldn't need anything wedding related plus last time I won a prize and just couldn't travel far enough to use it - I was fortunate enough to be able to swap it with another hitcher though

    Hi,

Jenny was it my raffle in 2009 you didn't get a prize from? That really upsets me to think people donated prizes and couldn't be ar**d to keep their side of the bargain and makes me wonder if this is worth while. I know it's not about the prizes but that's not the point.

Kacy that's exactly how it works but your ticket numbers will be set against specific prizes. So say you bought £20 worth you can then say how many tickets you want allocated to a prize and you can pick as many prizes as you want (to a max of your ticket value). Then when the raffle takes place a random generator will be used for each individual prize. Each prize will have it's own 'set' of numbers so say 1-100 for prize 1, 101-200 for prize 2 etc. This way makes it a LOT easier for me.

    Now the important parts

Ticket prices: I'm thinking either £1 per ticket (which is £1 per raffle vote) or 50p. So not a lot of money and I'm happy with any amount so you guys tell me what you would prefer?

Charities: Post your charity suggestions and then we'll put it to a vote. Last time we had Macmillan Cancer and Alzheimer's Society. Just Giving pages were set up so money goes straight to the charity as I don't want people feeling like that are giving me the money. You can then decide which to donate to if 2 charities are chosen.

Timescales: I'd need a while, maybe 2 weeks to contact people and get a list of the prizes together.

Obviously if people don't want to donate prizes then the plan is ruined so keep your fingers crossed.

I would be more than happy paying £1 per ticket and am happy for any selected charities. Alzheimers is a charity very close to my heart but as this was one of the selected charities last time I am happy to go with the majority. I think its a really good idea and hope that everyone joins in!

I'd be happy in principle to take part in a raffle but as an OM I'm not sure what prizes I'd buy tickets for... will wait and see I guess! I'm planning a surprise anniversary party for the ILs in September so depending on timescale there might be a few things of interest... would love to win a cake for them for example!

Count me in! I vote for Macmillan Nurses as a charity. I think £1/ticket is fair.

I am a pastry chef too and I will be happy to donate a prize (based in the North West or the winner can come and collect). I'll just need to have a think about what exactly I should offer - possibly a cupcake tower (can be used for any celebration birthday/christening etc not just weddings)

Sounds good to me, i'd be happy with £1 however might people buy more if they're 50p per ticket? i guess everyone will decide how much they want to spend /donate but more chances to win might spur people on to spend / donate a little more? xx

Think the raffle is a great idea, missed out on last years but def would be in for this one. Think a pound is a reasonable price - not only as it's for charity but becasue of the time etc the 'givers' will be putting in.

I'd buy tickets. I like the idea you can buy tickets for a specific prize. I think it will make people spend that little bit more as it's something they really want.

This is a brilliant idea...I'm in. Could I suggest a children's charity? Maybe the NSPCC (I'm a teacher and these guys are so amazing supporting children from all walks of life) or maybe Great Ormond st hospital (My niece regularly goes to have heart surgery there)
