How long did you give people to RSVP?

Mitzi50, 18 November, 2009 at 12:14 Posted on Planning 0 14

Im just finishing of my invites and wondered how long to leave people to RSVP? I want to set a date and write it on the invite so I can get organised (im a spreadsheet lady - I have one for everything) and get food numbers etc confirmed.

So what timescale did everyone else give/are you giving guests?

We gave everyone 6 weeks to RSVP. We sent out the day ones first, we went over our intial guest total as there are always some fallouts, we then delayed sending the evening until a couple of weeks later and in the end were able to invite some people to the whole thing instead of just the evening. We put a different later date on the evening rsvp as the numbers didn't matter for our venue for evening food.

Phew! that's alright then!!lol I was really worried there! I went to a wedding at the end of April and I had the invitation at the start of Jan, thought that seemed an OK timescale...

*Breathes a big sigh and goes and sits quietly in the corner!*

We've given people over 2 months to respond! ?

Sent out day invtites first weekend of November with an RSVP date of 22nd January, In January will send out evening invites with RSVP date of March. Wedding is 22nd May.

Didn't see the point in hanging around to send invites. Just got them out so people could get organised ?

We gave everyone about 4-6 weeks I think but our wedding is quite small and the vast majority of guests knew the date and that an invite was coming anyway. Expect some people not to RSVP despite clear instructions - we gave them an RSVP card in a stamped addressed envelope and STILL a few have never sent them back so you'll be chasing them up regardless of what you do or how long you give them!

We will be 4-6 weeks too. Planning to get the day ones out as soon as it turns 2010 with an RSVP date of 12th February. The evening ones we have RSVP date of 28th February and plan to send them by the end of January.

I'm planning on sending our invitations out at the beginning of April, and have set the RSVP date for 31st May if I remember rightly, giving them about 6 weeks. The wedding isn't actually till 25th July though!

I just wanted to give myself more than enough time as we have to give our venue final numbers by 25th June, so I wanted to have everything set in stone and a table plan done by then. Also wanted to allow for chasing any late replies or maybe 'upgrading' people if some of the day people can't come. Plus our wedding's on a Sunday so it gives people notice if they wanted to take the Monday off work.

Cool so 4-6 weeks seems to be the average, i will work from that. Thanks!!

GeordieBarbie - We sent out save the dates so dont need to send ours out quite that early!

You have to have your final numbers in by my wedding day!!! Good to see you around again by the way!

That means you get married exactly a month before me, Moya ? I might have to use that to my advantage, planning-wise ?

Thanks, good to be back and see things a bit busier!

I'm glad I read the whole of this thread through or I would be panicking too!! Are you making your invites? I am, and they are still in the boxes behind my pc - I think I should get to making them soon! We havent properly aggreed on the guest list as yet - it keeps getting bigger everytime I look at it.

Moya you seem really organised and I'm not................. I think I may sulk a little ☹️

Im not as organised as i seem! Trust me! Im making everything stationary wise myself. I have done one as a test to make sure I can do it and it looks nice and it does so have bought all the bits and am now thinking about starting to make them. They are quite tricky to make and each one will have to be cut individually and stuck together etc so I want to leave myself plenty of time! When are you planning on sending out your invites?

Dont sulk, I dont even have an evening guest list yet, let alone ideas for evening stationary...no florist, no transport, no BM dresses, no suits for the men, no wedding rings, not chosen readings or hymns....and thats just off the top of my head!!!

We are sending our invites out probably at the start of April and we are going to ask for them back in May for our July 10th Wedding. I think its just up to the individual couple really!
