How much time are you having off work before the wedding?

Bride2012, 20 June, 2011 at 06:31 Posted on Planning 0 33

Hi,

Just wondered how much time off work you are having before the wedding? I'm thinking of taking 3 days off before and then 1-2 weeks after but my fiance is taking a week off before. We are looking to take a 7 night honeymoon.

Also have you all been able to book your time off work in advance? We're getting married on 16 June 2012 and not sure we're allowed to book time off this far in advance.

Thanks

Michelle

We've both got wednesday/thursday/friday before the wedding booked "just in case" although our feelings by then is that if something hasn't been done, it's not going to be done in time, unless it's something critical like a supplier dropping out - we'll be travelling down to the venue on the friday with all our stuff (table/room decor etc) but apart from that planning on a few lazy days.

We've then got 2 weeks booked afterwards for the honeymoon after that.

Although normally you probably can't book as far ahead as you need to holidaywise, have a word with HR and you'll probably find that exceptions can be made for exceptional circumstances such as needing to book a wedding/honeymoon.

We can't book for 2012 - even if we wanted the 2nd January - until the new year normally, although we didn't book our honeymoon until about March as we weren't sure what we wanted to do. As long as you arrange things with those you normally work with so they aren't taking 2 weeks off at the same time, there shouldn't be any real problems.

I'm getting married on 4th Aug 2012. I'm a teacher and purposely chose the date so I would have at least a week off before the wedding & time for Honeymoon afterwards.

I was going to take a week off, but am in the process of opening my own salon so, probably take a half day the thursday to go and get all my beauty stuff done, friday off to get house sorted and stuff to the venue, and married on the saturday! Hopefully Im not too stressed as I like my huse to be spottless at all times so wont have much time to do it that week!

I get married this Saturday, my last day at work is Wednesday. That gives me two days to get everything done. I have to be honest, its really hard to concentrate at work this week and I wish I had longer off before the wedding, BUT we should be able to get everything done in those two days including beauty treatments, picking up dresses, rehearsal etc so don't really need longer off.

We're having 4 weeks off after the wedding for our honeymoon, i booked the time off last year as it was such a large block of time I wanted confirmation I could have the time off before booking the honeymoon

I guess it depends on how much you're doing yourself. I'm taking 2 days off before - Thursday for beauty stuff (nails, hair colour etc) and Friday to deliver stuff to the venue and put centrepieces together. If you haven't got all that to do you might not need the time. But from personal experiecne if you have too much time you'll just start to fret and have panic attacks when it's too late to change anything anyway. It might be better to negotiate finishing an hour or 2 early each day for the week before rather than days off if your employer allows.

Our policy at work states that 2 weeks is the max anyone can take for leave at any one time, but at the discretion of head of department it may be possible to take more for a special event, so I had to speak to my head and ask for 2 weeks and 3 days. She said yes seeing as it's a wedding and honeymoon (of course!), so I booked it a year in advance, and before we booked the honeymoon.

I am only having the day off before the wedding...our venue dress everything for us so just need to pop up there the day before and drop favours and anything else off and they sort it all out. There is no way I want to take any more time than that off before otherwise I will be more stressed out and nervous - work will keep me occupied.

We then have four days at home (Christmas weekend and bank holidays) and go on honeymoon 28th December and get back Jan 12th so we are having 3 1/2 weeks off in total which is a special allowance for weddings. My holiday year runs from April - March and booking off for the following holiday year was fine but I would speak to HR and see if they can make an allowance for it being your wedding x

I've got the week before off, but have to go and sort out my passport in order to go back to work on Thursday 13th October. OHhas got off the week running up to the wedding and the week off afterwards. I'm going to see if I can swap trips so I dont have to go back until Mon 17th Oct but it depends on who is onboard. At times like these I wish I had a regular job!

I plan to finish up on the 9th of December and won't go back to work until the 5th of January or there abouts. But i'm still undecided about exactly when i'm going to finish up. My work is quite good that i can book time off at the last minute if i want to. And seeing as it's Christmas time, there isn't much going on anyway!

I am having Thursday and Friday off (the wedding is on a Saturday). We are having over two weeks off post wedding (honeymoon is 2 weeks and 1 day and this is 2 days after wedding)... for the whole thing we have used 15 leave days (3 weeks).

I don't work but OH is taking off the Thursday and Friday off before (we marry on the Saturday) and then he is off for 1.5 weeks after that (we're honeymooning for 8 days from the Monday) so only time he needs to take but that's only because he's had to use up a lot of his annual leave on appointments, etc on the run-up to the wedding.

I took 2 and half days, my husband only one.

We're both self employed though, so didn't encounter any of the issues regarding holiday (save for the financial impact). We're planning to take 5 weeks off for our honeymoon.

Our wedding is 1st October...my last day is the tuesday before, which gives me time to pick up suits and dresses etc and have my nails done etc. I cant really take the week off because I have booked nearly a month off for weding and honeymoon! 28th Sept - 21st October! OH booked the honeymoon as a surprise so I was lucky to get the time off!! x

I'm taking the week off before the wedding (wedding is Sat 1st Oct). OH is only taking the Friday. We've got two weeks after the wedding booked for our honeymoon. My Mum is also off for the week before, so we can start packing stuff up, picking up the suits etc.

I was originally going to just book Wed, Thurs, Fri off before the wedding, but as my job tends to be a bit physical I would probably end up marking my skin - I'm sure a huge purple bruise would really add to my look on the day!

None. I'm a full time mum, so no days off for me. My mum will have the kids for a few hours if i need her to though.

Not sure what (if anything) OH will be taking off. Losing 1 day of work could mean he missed out on potential clients, so not ideal when that would mean losing money too.

I get married next saturday (2nd July) and I finish this friday...wish I had enough hols to have this week off as well!!

I spoke to my boss last year about having 5 weeks off & the MD agreed to it. Ive ended up taking 4 & half weeks off because then I dont have to take anytime unpaid & it leaves me with a couple of days plus the days I must keep 3 days for company closure at christmas. Im really happy with gettin so much time off & it all being paid.

im lucky to have such an understanding & kind boss - hes giving me a day off this week 'off the record' and keeps saying he knows how much girls have to do in the run up to a wedding (he has 3 daughter married). I kept a week from last yrs holidays (agreed last year).

The way I see it, im a good worker, punctual, work of a high standard, have only taken 3 days sick in 6 years etc and they are looking after me in return IYKWIM.

Think it helps that Ive invited my boss & MD to the wedding along with their wives! lol!

I don't work but will have help from mum with my son on the run up to the wedding. OH works from home and will no doubt finish up on Thursday so he can spend time with his family who are flying over from Oz.

I think I will definitely take Wed and Thurs off before our Saturday wedding (I don't work Fridays anyway), possibly the Mon and Tues aswell but it depends how much leave I have spare. OH will probably just take the Thurs and Fri - that's what I would like him to take anyhow.

We may both have a few days off after the wedding for a minimoon, but that's undecided yet. We're marrying on a bank holiday weekend so we'll have the Monday regardless.

Our 'official' honeymoon isn't til Nov 2012 (we get married in August) and we have the whole month booked off for that!

It helps that our wedding and honeymoon fall in different leave years for both of us!

I'm getting married on a Friday, planning on taking the Wednesday & Thursday off for final preps and some pampering. Going back to work the week after and then honeymoon for 2 weeks the Saturday after.

Thinking I mgiht see if I can work from home on the Tuesday or take that off as well now...hmm... Going back to work for a week as I feel like 2 and a half weeks in one go is too much to take off! It also coincides with month end, so I will be around to make sure my stuff's all sorted, sad...

    Hi

We get married 14th July 2012 so i have taken the wednesday, thursday and friday off beforehand but my normal days off are the mon & tues so I have 5 days off to get sorted before the wedding. This will be to collect things including one of my BM's from the airport who is travelling a couple of days early so not too tired from travelling.

I have requested leave for upto 3 weeks after the wedding so we can book our honeymoon but will cancel any additional leave I have requested thats not needed. Normally we cant put our requests in til the Oct for following year but because we are getting married they have authorised it plus it is our busiest period at work so need to get the requests in early.

ask work see what they say - they can only give you the honest answer!

    Hi, Michelle!

At work we are not allowed to book holidays more than 12 months in advance, unless it's for a special occasion such as a wedding.

Our wedding is on 23 Dec but I will be on holiday from 7th Dec onwards, until 6 Jan 2012.Normally people would be amazed I managed to secure so much holiday so close to Xmas (our company has a separate policy for approving Xmas holidays, apart from the normal holidays during the rest of the year) and normally, unless it's a special thing, we are not allowed more than 3 days off between 20 Dec and 4 Jan, in addition to the normal Xmas Bank Holidays.

It's only because in our case there will be lots to do in the 2 weeks before the wedding, as some of the wedding party, my Mum included, live abroad and I will have to go pick people up from various airports (and I don't drive), my OH's parents live in Scotland and can't come over due to work until few days before the wedding and need FIL2B's suit sorted etc...

I'm getting married on a Sat, and am taking the Wed, Thur and Fri off beforehand, then the following 2 weeks for honeymoon, and possibly a couple of days tacked onto the end to make it 3 weeks total. I'm hoping not to have masses to do directly before the wedding (though with current organisational levels this may not hold true) but would rather not be at work and stressing if not entirely necessary.

I'm planning on having from the wednesday afternoon off, and I think OH will be working wed, thurs, fri day shifts so I'm not sure what he's going to do.

Saying that, I *might* have a new job by then which will be mon-fri, so I'm not sure how much holiday I'll be able to take
