I Am.....a Sales Assistant in a Shop and I Hate It

How frequently do people steal from the shop you work in?

What type of shop?

Probably quite often, because of the area the shop is in. We don't have alarms on the doors and I'm too busy to watch people.

We mainly sell books, stationery, newspapers and magazines.

What do you hate about it?

I used to joke that my job in retail would have been perfect if not for the really annoying customers ?

How long have you worked there?

Is it a chain store or independant?

The customers, it's boring, we have stupid targets we have to meet and I can't be bothered with it as I'm only there 12 hours a week.

I have worked in retail for the past 9 years. Been in this job for nearly 3. I have a habit of working for companies that go into administration.

If you were to stay in retail, what shop (or sort of shops) would you rather work in and why?

Now your children are older, and given that you hate your job, why don't you do something else?

A second hand bookshop that I own and can just plod along at my own pace. I love looking through second hand bookshops as you find some real gems in them.

Because life has a habit of throwing up little surprises now and again that mean plans have to change.

Before I got ill I worked retail all my life, I feel your pain!

What has been the worst retail job you've had?

Mine was Curry's, the pressure put on you by management to sell, sell, sell and insurance was awful, it just wasn't me at all.

My first retail job - too many nasty, vile old women working there who seemed to get kicks from making people's lives a misery.

What would you do if this ^^^ wasn't the case?

I'm planning on working in retail until my youngest is at an age where they can come home from school on their own without me having to be there. After that I will step away from retail and find a job somewhere else.

I hate my job, but if it means my kids can come home after school nearly every day I'll stick with it.

I used to work in the Bear Factory and, as the youngest, they made me wear the smelly bear suit. It never got washed and as it was hot in the store, it stank of sweat and you had to wear the bear head so the smell intensified in there!

What's the most disgusting thing you've had to do in your line of work?
