Is eloping really a secret?

Myself and partner and thinking to elope. We’ve mentioned to family in the past we may marry but have since decided that a quiet little wedding between us would be much nicer.

We’re worried family would be disappointed if they ever found out we eloped.
I’m aware wedding certificates from 1992 or later can be simply searched online.
Are more recent marriages easy to uncover?

    We kind of hoped not and wanted to keep it a secret at least for the next 5-10 years. But not sure how this works in practice.
