Laser tattoo removal

SillyWrong, 10 of April of 2014 at 10:58 Posted on Planning 1 10

My dress has a very low back and I have a tattoo slap bang in the centre of my back, I hate it. I got it done when I was 17 and it's now old and blurred and means nothing to me. I spoke to my MUA and she said she could cover it effectively.

I've just seen Laser tattoo removal on Groupon and I'm tempted. I'd love to have the tattoo gone forever and not to have to wear makeup on my back for the wedding (no matter how good the MUA is I'm worried about being able to see it, or my back being an odd/orangy colour, or it showing up in pictures.)

... just a bit nervous though about laser removal, anyone have any experience of it or advice?

Yes!!! My two stepdaughters are both going through it now for a wedding! A couple of people I know have had it done previously. The size, density and colour will dictate how painful it is and how expensive. The treatment is more painful than having the tattoo done. They describe it as someone twanging an elastic band on your skin - but more acute. Afterwards the area goes very very red and burns. It scabs but then in a few days the pain subsides and it's just a scab that you must leave alone or it will scar. Aloe Vera helps with the burning.

I've seen the end results on a few people and what's left is not necessarily clean skin. You can often still see remnants of the original tattoo. I guess it depends just how unsightly the tattoo is and how important it is for you to have it gone by the time of your wedding.

I'd go for a consultation at a reputable laser clinic to get their view before committing to anything on groupon for it.

I'll be honest and say I'd be cynical about a laser clinic discounting their services with Groupon - it's a highly skilled and technical procedure. Have you thought about the idea of having another tattoo to cover it?...

    Thanks!

(I know I'm saying this to the wrong person, Inked Doll!) I'm really not a fan of tattoos anymore!

I don't worry too much about the company selling on groupon, I know lots of companies do it just to drum up extra business, get their name out there, get themselves recommended to others etc - I'd research the company and the qualifications before letting them near me!

My MUA told me that with the airbrush makeup she can cover tattoos so it's worth asking if she can do it xx

One of my closest friends is a singer/dancer and she regularly has to cover up her tattoos for shows. Assuming your MUA uses makeup designed to cover tattoos (my friend doesn't use standard foundation to cover them, she uses specialist makeup), it should blend as naturally as your foundation will on your face - depending, of course, on the size and darkness of the original tattoo. If your tattoo is very large or very dark and a little still shows through the makeup, it shouldn't be enough that people will notice unless they're looking for it, and your photographer will be able to photoshop it out of any photos.

Ha, I remember a girl I worked with paying an absolute fortune to have a dolphin removed from her shoulder. After a few motnhs it hadn't completely disappeared so she ended up getting another tattoo over the top!!!

I've heard very good things about dermablend for covering tattoos though.

I am currently getting a tattoo (read blurry mess that is best described as a large star shape) removed from my back!

I had two sessions of laser removal at a tattoo parlour and it only faded a bit. This week I went into a clinic where they specialise in botox, filers and all kinds of weird and wonderful treatments. I felt like I was in a massively alien environment, but they have a much more powerful laser and I can already see the tattoo is fading more. As a health warning I would say the more powerful the laser, the greater the risk of blistering and then scarring (both of the ladies who lasered me said this!). However, if you go for the softly softly approach it might cost you loads and not be gone for the big day. In this clinic the lady said it might not be enough time before my wedding in July to completely remove the tattoo - however it would be easier to cover up. Hope this helps. x

From the laser jobs I've seen a MUA would maybe still have to cover it for you as it's left marks / fading / scarring.

Maybe not all are the same but if it was me i'd probably just get it covered with make up on the day.

I have a tattoo and have used Veil cover cream to cover it in the past. It does an incredible job, and is water proof - I have friends who used it to cover tattoos at a pool and spa in Japan, and it didn’t budge. It’s very cheap too - much cheaper and much less painful than laser removal
