Apparently she was Dawn Porter, but changed it to Dawn O'Porter, when she and Chris O'Dowd met (apologies if this is old news to some - I hadn't read about it before). According to the Sun article it's part of a new trend of 'meshing' two surnames to keep a bit of yours and a bit of your partners. This made me giggle because any of the combinations of mine and my OH's surnames sound ludicrous, however hard I try. But I found it interesting because I'm not entirely sure about changing my name and quite like seeing the other options out there.

As it's meant to be the new trend, i'd never heard of it but just wondered whether others have done it/thinking of doing it or thoughts on it? I've heard of double-barrelled surnames and obviously keeping your own is becoming more common, but not combining the two, maybe I've been living under a rock?

We solved it. We had a good chat with my son.

He has no real issue with my becoming Mrs [Husband] he just desperately wants a name link with any siblings were we to have some. So I'll keep my maiden name at work, change it everywhere else, and any kids will have both bride & groom's surname so they'll share one surname with my son.

It's a little complicated but everyone is happy (enough) with the choice.

No! Even if you could mesh the names Price and Skinner into something sort of half decent i'd refuse to... I wouldn't even go double-barrelled.

That is a nice compromise, glad you found something that works for everyone.

I am reluctant about the name change as well. We are McDonagh and McNamara so we can't hyphenate as they are so similar (l would have considered this otherwise) and we can't really mesh them either. I think l will go with maiden name at work and married name at home. Still not looking forward to the day the phone rings and l need to answer to what is in effect my MIL's name as l really don't like the woman! Thank god we have very different 1st names.

Ours wouldn't work - would either be Warsons or Pilson!

Whilst i agree it could be a great thing for some couples and really work well, I think Dawn O' Porter hasn't done that for the feminism, the way she has meshed it seems to me that she has done it for the novelty value and 'oh aren't I funny'. Not really love.
