I think traditionally you either have a Matron of Honour who is married and other Bridesmaids, or a Chief Bridesmaid and the bridesmaids

I think that the term "Maid of Honor" is American, and is the same as a CBM

Basically it's the BM who takes the lead/is in charge

So i'm guessing I can't really have both? See, my sister is married and I'd like her to be MOH, but my longest best friend I would like as bridesmaid too - but the other 2 bridesmaids are children, so that would make her CBM.

At the end of the day. they are just titles, so you can call them what you like. You'd just need to clarify what you want them to do.

For example, all of my BMs are married, and my best friend is CBM/MOH. She'll be the one that will hold my bouquet, sit at the top table with me and generally boss the other two about!

I have both my sister and best friend as joint maid of honours/chief bridesmaids and will share the 'duties'

    You have either/or ...
If I remember correctly, I believe this is the difference.
Matron of Honour is the term used if the person you choose is already married them self, and Cheif Bridesmaid if they are single.

I was under the impression that they are the same thing.

I'm not having either! I choose my BM's for individual reasons, none of them are more important than the others and I've told them that.

Traditionally though I think a MOH would be a bridesmaid who is already married... CBM is not... some people do have both now though but I'm not clear on the difference it makes.
