Money

Chelsie, 16 January, 2023 at 11:22 Posted on Wedding Attire 7 17
Hi guys,
I know that money seems to be the main worry about weddings. Me being one of them that are worrying.
I have some tips from what I've found so far to cut costs, but wondered if anyone could add any more?
1) we got engaged last year, so we put booked the wedding later than the typical 2 year in advance time so we have time to save money.
2) I'm planning on getting bridesmaid dresses online, still letting them pick what style of dress they want but it means it will reduce cost.
3) Reducing the cost on my wedding shoes. Nobody's really gonna see them. So not gonna spend more than £50 (probably will spend less) on them.
4) Booking the wedding not in summer. Summer seems to be peak time for wedding meaning that prices go up.
5) By doing a car boot sale for extra money. We did this and made around £50. Doesn't seem like a lot for a wedding - but it meant that it was around £50 that we didn't have to worry about anymore.
6) Cash4Clothes. Only sell clothes that you don't want anymore. The clothes you really want please keep. But if you have clothes that don't fit or you arnt so keen on anymore, money can be gained from cash4clothes.
7) Ebay. You could always sell stuff on ebay if you want some extra money.
8) online surveys may be an option for a bit of money. Make sure that they pay via PayPal rather than a voucher for a shop if you'd rather have actual money.

What a good idea for a thread.

    - If you have time until your wedding, make a list of things you can purchase during big discount events and aim to buy them then e.g. Black Friday, January sales, Amazon Prime days. Particularly good for accessories and any diy bits such as table centres.

    - Photography: consider if you need the photographer for the whole day or just part of it. I’m not bothered about having “getting ready” photos, so my photographer has offered me a half day rate.

    - Food options: ask for alternatives from your caterer for the evening. Ours would have charged £18pp for the standard evening buffet. We didn’t fancy it and asked if there were other alternatives - we’re now having a job lot of bacon sandwiches at £6pp instead.

    - DIY flowers. I love flowers but don’t want to pay hundreds for bouquets, displays etc. I’m ordering 2 big bunches of flowers from Bloom & Wild, then breaking them down into small bouquets for me and the bridesmaids. We’ll put vases in the venue and our bouquets will go in them after the ceremony.

    - Be careful accepting favours from friends! They might seem like good options to save money, but only if you trust them 100% to follow through with what you want. Three things were offered by friends and family - 2 fell through and cost us more in the end as we had to book later and had less choice for suppliers.

Buy a supermarket cake and decorate it with a custom cake topper - it worked out less than half the cost we were quoted for a plain iced cake, never mind a decorated one!

Buy your wedding dress from a high street or mail order company or a second-hand shop. Hire instead of buying the grooms/ushers suits, or get them to wear what they already have.

Skip unnecessary stuff like favours, printed menus and signs except the ones you really need.

Look at alternatives to a wedding car company - book a taxi or get a reliable friend or relative to drive you.

Ask your regular hairdresser if they do wedding hair - mine was a fraction of the cost of a 'wedding hair stylist'. And I didn't wear makeup, although I know this is a bit far out of most people's comfort zone!

Pre owned wedding and engagement rings- more sparkle for your money!
We take packed lunches every day to work and takeaway coffee is a rare treat.
Put money for your wedding aside as soon as you get paid, you should already be doing this anyway as a regular saving, even if it's not 100s, it will all help.Agree with not doing all the "extra" stuff, no favours, we aren't having bridesmaids or groomsmen. There is a huge market for preowned wedding gowns, but id still go to a boutique for the whole trying on experience Love this thread!!!

Definitely agree with putting money aside as soon as you get paid! We have a standing order that goes out after pay day for the amount we want to save for the wedding each month so it's definitely saved rather than accidentally frittered away! We've only recently started doing this and I wish we had done sooner!

The other big thing I haven't seen here yet is think about your guest headcount. Our biggest saving was in going for a 50 person package over a 75 or 100 person package - we decided we'd much rather have the wedding we want and give a smaller group of people a great experience than have to compromise loads in order to accommodate lots of people who we probably would barely spend time with on the day anyway. It basically came down to cutting obligation family members or friends we don't really hang out with outside of big group events. The knock on effect of a smaller guest list has been huge on the budget as food costs go down, decor costs because you have less tables, favours, invites, confetti... so much for a wedding is per person so it's saved a bunch and often meant we could go for better quality things because we need less of it!

As well as your point 4 (booking a wedding not in Summer), booking a wedding not on a Saturday is a lot cheaper at many venues. If you're planning well in advance, you've got plenty of time for attendees to make sure they're free on the day in question, and it can save thousands!

We’re looking at getting married as late as possible to avoid the sit down meal as this can cost a lot per head. And just have a bbq or hog roast on the evening

I would also recommend looking at Money Saving Expert for non-wedding ways to save money if you haven't done this already.

I got my dress fom a second-hand online designer shop and it worked out waaay cheaper than a new dress; bridesmaid dresses were from the sales. Got shoes in the sale.

Paid for makeup consultation in a store where the payment could be redeemed against makeup products.

If you're providing alcohol, it's far cheaper to buy from supermarket rather than pay bar or restaurant prices (unbelievable difference).

I think buffet-style catering can be a lot cheaper, e.g. serving various delish curries (I went to a wedding where they a great array of Srik Lankan food - it was amazing).

We are marrying locally, so less money on accommodation.

Budgeting for a big life event really puts money into perspective, and it also highlights how different income paths work. Looking at creators who built wealth in unconventional ways can be motivating when saving feels slow, and discussions around Shmee150 Net Worth often come up for that reason. It shows how consistent effort, smart use of platforms, and turning a passion into content can create long term income, which is similar in mindset to cutting wedding costs through small but practical steps that add up over time.

When people talk about saving money, they usually focus on big-ticket items, but daily spending habits add up just as fast. I started looking at how I manage regular payments alongside crypto, especially when you don’t want everything locked in one place. That’s how I ended up using Trustee Plus crypto wallet with card - it lets you keep crypto and still pay like normal without jumping through hoops. What I like about Trustee Plus is that it feels practical, not overengineered. The crypto wallet works smoothly, and the card is handy for everyday expenses. I’ve been using it for a while now and haven’t had issues.

Anyone who runs a small business will surely appreciate this solution. Owning an online store, I, as someone who keeps up with the latest business trends, had long been looking for a way to streamline my debt management—both those owed to me and those I owe; I wanted to stop wasting time on routine matters. I was recommended the Precoro website here , where I carefully assessed all the pros and cons. Without much thought, I decided to try the demo version. It was clear that this program was exactly what I needed: it seamlessly integrated with my accounting system, making all my work now easier.

Weddings really show how important it is to manage money smartly, especially when you’re trying to cut costs without adding stress. I ran into a similar situation when part of my savings was in crypto moving it around or using it efficiently wasn’t as simple as I expected. The usual process with exchanges and withdrawals just adds extra steps and fees. While figuring out a smoother way, I came across https://incrypted.com/en/top-crypto-cards-withdrawing-bitcoin/ it gives a clear overview of practical options. According to their research, Trusty Plus stands out as one of the top crypto cards, so I tried it. Setup was quick, and honestly, it feels as easy as using a regular card.

I call my friends on Skype, and we broadcast together playing online casino games. It's a really fun way to spend time with friends, especially during quarantine. We tried this on the website https://xtraspinscasino.com . You can learn more about it if you're interested.
