Hello, I know this has been asked previously, however it seemed to be some time ago and I am hoping people have more recent experience of this. I am ready to send my driving licence and D1 change of name form to the DVLA (along with marriage cert). I want to put in a return stamp addressed envelope...

Hello, I know this has been asked previously, however it seemed to be some time ago and I am hoping people have more recent experience of this.

I am ready to send my driving licence and D1 change of name form to the DVLA (along with marriage cert). I want to put in a return stamp addressed envelope to myself and would like to make it signed for or tracked so it comes back safely. The post office have a disclaimer saying it needs to be sent within 7 days, problem being its going to be sent back by the DVLA and they currently have a 3 week turn around period.

Has anybody used recorded or special delivery and had any problems using it?

I am just wondering what people have done in the past, I don't want my marriage certificate to go astray..

    Yes, you can use a prepaid Special Delivery or Signed For return envelope. The 7-day point is generally about when you post the item, not a guarantee that the DVLA must return it within seven days.


    A sensible option is to include a prepaid Special Delivery envelope addressed to yourself, clearly explaining that it is for the return of your original documents. Keep the receipt/tracking number for the documents you send to the DVLA.
    Also, take photos/scans of your marriage certificate and licence details before sending them, just for your records.
