No Honeymoon?

Ostira, 25 April, 2022 at 14:52 Posted on Honeymoons & Getting Married Abroad 0 41
Hi all,
I recently got engaged in February and we’re in the midst of planning our big day on Halloween 2023 (memorable? Yes!). We’re eloping to Gretna Green, very simple package of ceremony and photographs and staying at a nearby B&B for our pre-wedding and wedding night. We aren’t sure on a honeymoon as it may be out of our budget, anyone else not having or hasn’t had a honeymoon? We may have a belated one in the future but probably not next year.

We are having ours months after the wedding as we want to save up afterwards so we can go on our dream honeymoon. One of my bridesmaids is getting married the month after us and they are jetting off the day after the wedding to their honeymoon, I think it all depends on you and your partner and what you want Smiley smile

Thank you for the reply! I’m glad we’re not alone with the “straight off on honeymoon” thing. We usually go on holiday in the UK as we take our dog with us everywhere. We’re thinking if we do have a honeymoon, it’ll be in the UK (also a bit unheard of now!)

I think its becoming a lot more popular now for couples to have a honeymoon in the UK than abroad, especially with covid etc but as long as you and your partner are happy then thats all that matters!

Definitely, I’ve always been more for holidaying in the UK although we are planning a trip to Egypt in the future, it’ll be a while yet with the wedding! I wish you the best of luck with your wedding and honeymoon!

Certainly! We’ve never been abroad together in our whole 7 year relationship! I travelled a lot before we met, to America, Greece, Italy but he’s never been abroad and with us moving a lot and progressing, we’ve never quite found our travelling fund!

Hi! We were the same as you, unsure if we wanted one and the budget of the wedding rapidly got out of control. So we have decided to have one but probably 6-12 months after the wedding so we can afford something special. A lot of people I know have them a few months after their weddings anyway x

You're welcome! I also have a feeling that once the wedding is over I will probably feel a bit sad about it being over because the planning is so fun. So I think having a honeymoon a while after the wedding is something good to look forward to x

Hey, we are planning our wedding for 2025 and have decided with us having two boys now ages 6.5month and 3 that in 3 years they’d be the perfect ages for Disney so rather than a wedding gift we shall ask for money to go towards our honeymoon trip to Disney

That’s such a great idea! And I love Disney World so it’d be perfect for you both. Lots of couples go there for honeymoons, unfortunately my fiancé is not a disney fan so that’s out the question for us but most likely somewhere we can take our dog. We can’t have kids so our dogs our family and just as important to us that she goes with us!

We aren't going on honeymoon for a while.
I have a secret plan to take him to Murrayfield for the Six Nations in 2024 though (he's a massive Scotland fan, and hasn't been able to go to a match for ages for various reasons).

We’re getting married on 6th September in Gretna Green too, we’re staying 3 nights in the Smiths hotel. We’ve decided to have our honeymoon over our 1st wedding anniversary. Not sure where yet, but it will be somewhere hot!

We aren't having a honeymoon at all for multiple reasons. Both of us love the comfort of our own home, we're at our happiest sitting next to eachother on the sofa playing xbox. There's also the cats. My youngest is super destructive so I can't leave her with anyone & she's very clingy so I can't leave her with daily visits, she needs company. Thers no way I'd put them both in a cattery, I'd feel so guilty.

So we are having a week off work to just chill at home, possibly have a couple of days out & relax after all the excitement.

Oh wonderful! We’re getting married at the Gretna Hall Hotel! And staying at a nearby B&B for 2 nights as we wanted our whole wedding to be pet friendly on the off chance our dog needs to stay with us! We’re considering the Lake District for a belated honeymoon! But waiting till the 1st wedding anniversary sounds like a good idea! Plenty time to save

Sounds great! Our dog is rescue and has separation anxiety so we can’t leave her for long. This is one of the reasons we are marrying at Gretna Green and staying in pet friendly accommodation on the off chance she has to stay with us. We are now considering a belated honeymoon at the Lake District where we can take our dog ( she goes on every holiday with us) but staying at home also sounds great as we do love our home!

It is! My family are from Cornwall but I’ve never actually been! Living in the North East, it would be a stretch to get there but it’s a possibility.

Yeah I know the feeling my family are from Wigan however I’m from the Lake District and we went every year with my Nan and grandad when I were little. It’ll be nearly a 14 hour drive for us at the weekend but it’ll be worth it

Me and my H2B planned our wedding for November this year, booked honeymoon in a cottage, didn't want to spend loads as we've just started fertility treatment and babies are expensive, so low key, we ended up bringing the wedding forward and we can't actually move the date of our honeymoon forward. But it gives us both something to look forward to end November and then Christmas so we think it'll be a lovely way to fill in this year.
    Best wishes. Xx

That’s great! We’re looking into a belated honeymoon at Christmas time because our wedding is 31st of October next year and we usually go away for Christmas with not having kids yet so why not make it our honeymoon? Haha!
I wish you the best of luck in your fertility treatment and wedding xx
