Becky, 23 May, 2022 at 22:12 Posted on Etiquette and Advice 0 9
I was just wondering if anyone else has been in the same position or could offer advice ?
I have no parents , I am also an only child with no cousins , aunties uncles etc.
Who gives me away ?? I have 3 children aged between 1-7 ... Or do I just give myself away 🤣

Sorry to hear this, perhaps a male member of your partner’s family could give you away if you want it to be a male? When Harry and Megan got married, Charles gave her away as her dad wasn’t there after all that newspaper drama. But it can be anyone really! You could ask a close female friend or you could also walk down yourself. It doesn’t have to be traditional. Good luck

I’m also in this situation. I have aunts and uncles etc but no parents, no children, no siblings so we decided to elope. I hope you can get this sorted, I will be walking myself down the aisle. I feel like it’s a strong thing to do personally but if you would like someone to walk you down the aisle, is there a friend or member of your fiancés family who could walk you?

Thanks for your lovely responses. I would love to elope as I don't have friends close enough to ask to be bridesmaids (I moved to the area during lockdown) . My fiance isn't keen on the idea .
I think my future FIL would be pleased if I asked him

My position is slightly different - my fiancé doesn't have parents, my dad isn't bothered about coming, but I have a brother. I'd kinda decided to just walk down myself down anyway (with my bridal party behind me).
Apparently a couple of friends went down the aisle together at their recent wedding - could be another option.

Ask whoever you feel will be most supportive to walk with on the day. Or walk on your own if you feel confident enough. Or you could meet your fiance at the door and walk up the aisle with him - it's what we did, and waiting to walk in together was one of the best moments of the day!

Hi. Like you I have no parents. I'm going dress shopping this weekend and not to have mom there is breaking my heart. But I have my sister. As to walking down the aisle, my 17yr old nephew is walking me. He is (in his words) stoked about it and can't wait even though we're not getting married until May 2023. Like the others have said, you can have anyone you want, it's your day.

I’m going to walk myself down the aisle. My dad emigrated six years ago and I barely hear from him now. I doubt very much he’ll come to the wedding. I don’t feel comfortable asking an uncle or my fiancé’s dad. My bridesmaids will be walking ahead of me so I’ll have them there for support just before I go down the aisle.
