Not at all O/T...wasps and bees

Mellow_Yellow, 24 June, 2011 at 07:53 Posted on Planning 0 11

Is anyone else terrified of them?

I am cacking it for my wedding day, as it's in May, I will have a huge bouquet with orchids and freesia which have a really strong scent, and our photos will be in a park that is swarming with them and full of flowers.

I know there's not much anyone can say to help, but my mum and OH think I'm being a bit silly, and it would be nice to know if anyone else is in the same situation.

I have visions of having to leave my bouquet inside, and even then there's no guarantee that I wont get chased by one...although part of me thinks my inner Bridezilla may emerge on the day and just refuse to be bullied by a little buzzing b*****d!

OMG I cant believe I am reading this because I thought I was the only one!! I'm terrified of them - even my bridesmaids have advised me against the icecream trike we were going to have and have promised to be on bee and wasp duty! The meanies also said that for my hen do they are going to dress up as bees and dress me up as a pot of honey!!

I'm not sure there is anything we can do, no matter how many times people tell me not to run, I cant stand still while they are buzzing around near me! xx

I don't like wasps but I wouldn't worry about them on your day - they will be hanging around the local rubbish bins or around any jam that happens to be lying about. I have a garden full of wild flowers and have never seen a wasp near them.

Bees though. Well, I'm not scared of bees so maybe I'm going to come down on their side. But bees are pretty benign. They probably will like your flowers but I suspect with wild ones around that aren't surrounded by massive scary human creatures, they will mostly stay away. Bees genuinely don't sting for fun. I have never seen a bride hounded by bees after her bouquet.

Have you ever been stung? I haven't so I think I am more scared of it that I should be (in the case of wasps). If I was stung and found that it didn't hurt too much, maybe I wouldn't be so nervous around them...

Can't unfortunately, the venue backs on to a huge public park where the pics would be taken so can't really put anything down. I just wanted to see if others felt the same really, don't think there's any solution other than for me to grow a pair ?

Only as a child, not too ong after I'd watched some terrifying killer bees film, and so I was convinced that about 100 others were on their way to get me - I was hysterical, my mum was mortified ?

I sometimes think that if I got stung as an adult it would help, as I remember it being the worst thing in the world; whereas I have been out with friends who have been stung and said 'ouch, that hurt' and then they're back to normal. I think I've built it up so much over the years, maybe the best thing would be to get stung before the wedding.

I know, I kinda agree that I think my mind will be elsewhere. When I was BM at my brother's wedding three years ago I had a troublesome wasp near my bouquet while they were saying their vows (outdoor wedding) and I nearly peed myself trying not to disturb them. In the video all you can see is me lokoing terrified, I don't even rememebr any of their vows as I was so preoccupied ☹️

I am allergic to wasp stings and my mum has been told she is to have the whole quarry of anti wasp sting stuff in the off chance that i do get stung but think it is highl unlikely just don't want to have to go to hospital....

Bees on the other hand are my friends, they make yummy honey and by eating their honey it relieves my hayfever! Plus i only know one person who was stung by a bee and she sat on it in a swimsuit in the garden and squished it - wholly not the bees fault

I'm so glad you posted this! I'm not a wimp about anything else (don't mind snakes, spiders, heights...whatever) but I have a real phobia of wasps and I've been worrying about my bouquet. I don't want to jump around and shriek - I find it so embarrassing and so does W2B but I can't help myself even though it's probably the worst thing to do - in my big wedding dress in front of everyone and if there were lots I'd probably have to go inside = no photos.

Trying not to think about it and hoping there won't be loads around on the day!! Smiley sad

Eeeurgh I hate them too! They are the *only* thing that turn me into a screaming, quivering wreck. Anything else I can deal with, but I literally run and jump a mile if I see a wasp. Hadn't actually thought about it for the wedding, but there's not much I can do about it so will just have to cross my fingers that they leave me alone!
