Hi LeighB3, Glad to hear we've been helpful, it sounds like your doing pretty well organisation wise When in October is your big day? Good luck for your first exam in Jan xx
I do feel pretty organised at the moment, I'll start looking at everything else probably in the Spring time.
I get married on 10th October in Nottingham. Both the registry office and the reception venue look out onto the river so I'm praying for nice sunny weather.
Thanks, I'm getting very nervous about the exam! x
Ooh your the weekend after Sparkly Bear & me I'm impressed your going to wait until spring to look into everything else ... I had to promise my OH that I'd take a time out from planning, but I only agreed to wait until after Christmas! Then again, I cant imagine there is much left =/
Your venue sounds lovely, if October 2015 is anything like this year you should be fine Do feel free to flash pics btw Let us know how you get on
How are we all today?! Not long till Christmas! I wish i could get more excited but I am working for all of it ☹️
I seem to have missed lots of updates in the last few days so I shall try and reply to you all!
Stephied9384 - This is amazing news that you have booked your honeymoon! I would never dream of doing anything so adventurous! You must take lots of pictures and show us all once you are back! We can all do a Honeymoon flash! It would definitely cheer us up, as I know I'll feel a little sad once its all over! Where abouts are you going in Goa? We have never flown long haul either, I think the furthest we did we Egypt and that is 7 hours! We have a 12 hour flight for our Honeymoon! How long is yours?! I hope I can find enough things to keep me occupied on the plane!!
LittleMissPanda - I work as a Recruitment Partner within Banking! I love my job tremendously, but sometimes it can be rather stressful, and even on the busiest of days all I can focus on is Wedding Planning!
I havent looked for the table plan yet, I imagine its in the box of Wedding stuff (or at least I hope it is!) I can pretty much remember where we are sitting everyone so hopefully if I have lost it, i'll be able to redo pretty quickly! I might have a look at the weekend actually.
Nude shoes is a good idea- I need to get the bridesmaids a pashmina as well though. Being October I am expectingthe worse weather wise and so I want them to be warm! I think i'll probably go for either the White/Cream or Ivory - who knew that colours so close in the spectrum could cause such dilemmas!
How are your plans coming along? I made the bows for my invitations at the weekend! I will probably put the ribbons onto the invitations this weekend! Although we visiting various relatives to drop of Christmas presents, but i am sure there will be time for Wedding Invitation making at some point!
LeighB3 - Congratulations and Welcome to hitched! As LittleMissPanda has said, you are the weekend after us! And you are only up the road from me! I live in Leicestershire, but am getting married just over the boarder in Warwickshire! You sound very organised with your plans! And I am impressed you are managing university at the same time too! What are you studying?! Good Luck with your first exam!!
Rebeccafcr - Sorry to hear your first dress shopping expereince was rubbish - but on a positive note, well done on loosing 2 stone though! I think once Christmas is out of the way, you'll get your focus back! Would it maybe be worth calling rouond some dress shops to see if they stock your size? At least then when you turn up you will know they have dresses available for you to try on? Even though they might not be the dress you think you are looking for, at least your will have been able to try different styles on. It is nice to hear that the lady in the shop you did visist has been able to order some dresses in for you! That'll be exciting when they arrive!
^^^^^^^^^^ I am so excited for this part!!!!! I usally fall asleep way before midnight, but this year I am making an extra special effort to stay awake just so that when the clock chimes I can tell everyone that I get married this year!!!!
Goodness 160 - don't think I could cope with that! Where are you having your Christmas Party? We had ours last week, was a really lovely evening!
yeah, yeah yeah! You had better start in the new mear missy!!!
I totally forgot to ask - how was your dress appointment?! I see your are going back to try on some Maggie dresses in Jan! Have you booked your appointment?! What type of styles did you try on?!
I've been a bit quiet in this discussion group apart from one post trying to find a date twin. We are getting married on the 25th. We originally wanted the 3rd but by the time we had worked out numbers and figured we could afford our dream venue that date had gone! My fiancé is a police officer and we are inviting a lot of his section so we had to pick the next weekend that they were on rest days! We chose the Sunday as it's a traditional church and family day :-)
our progress so far...
venue booked and half the balance paid
DJ booked and paid for
hair and make up booked and deposit paid
photographer booked but needs to be paid for. She's a friend of my fiancé and secretly photographed our engaged. She captured the 'big moment' perfectly so we would dream of having anyone else.
Dress ordered and half the balance paid
shoes and accessories bought
bridesmaids shoes and umbrellas bought
I've started ordering decorations and little touches like paper pom poms, hessian string, lace and Chinese lanterns. We are going for a rustic candlelit theme.
I've had a few dress wobbles recently so I'm nervous but also really excited about trying it on again with all the accessories. As much as I'm finding all this exciting it's also really stressful! I find myself with busy brain at night sat there looking for things on the Internet and then having weird dreams about the wedding! Does anyone else have this?xx
I have not posted for while as it has been a hectic few weeks at work and the wedding planning. And now xmas it is upon us!
Venue booked, deposit paid.
Church booked, awaiting new year prices.
Flowers booked and colour scheme agreed with florist.
I bought the bridesmaids dresses last weekend. We had a good girly day out together! I was pleased that we found them on the day as one is from Swindon, the other is from Colchester and I live in Kent. Logistcially not many chances of having them all in one place.
I have ordered the first batch of invitations for my family in Africa, America and Germany so that they can start to look into flights before the prices shoot up. I will send their invites at the beginning of January. I ordered them from Vistaprint.
I have not had a difficult time finding a wedding dress. I dreaded the idea of searching for a dress but one Friday afternoon I spontaneously called the one of the nearby wedding dress shops near me and made an appointment the same day. I tried about 4 dresses. I liked the 1st one (Victoria Kay 1435) but at £900 I thought i should keep looking. I have found the shoes I want to wear so I can now go for a fitting to ensure we get the length right.
I have sourced all the different elements for the centrepieces apart from mirror plates. SIL might have a few left over from her wedding. I'm waiting for her to confirm how many she has got before I buy more. The centrepieces are 50cm tall vases with flower arrangements at the top. They will have clear water beads with immersible LED lights. The vases will be surrounded by tealights on mirror plates.
I was planning on not doing favours but then I received a sample pack with the cutest favour boxes so I decided will do them. I will put in 2 Ferrero Rochers in each. I am now stocking up on the chocs; prices are at their lowest at this time of the year but difficult to get any that don't expire before Oct 2015. Guest name tags will also be attached to the favour boxes or even written directly on to the favour box.
I have drawned up a draft table but with about 30 guests on list from abroad, I believe only a fraction of them will be able to make it. At the moment no children are invited but they might be once I know from the 1st wave of invites who won't be able to make it.
Hope you're all ok, and getting excited for Christmas next week! Only 13 days till New Years' Eve ... and then its officially OUR year ? I don't about you ladies, but for me its gone VERY quickly!! Who's going to be staying awake so they see in the New Year?
Rebeccafcr - I don't envy you doing a seating plan for 160 people, that sounds like it could be a bit of a headache How are you getting on with it? Hopefully you'll have a lovely Christmas party... Bet your wedding table plan won't be so daunting now xx
AnnaMolly - if it's any consolation I've been ordered to put all wedding planning on hold until the New Year, I think I was driving everyone bonkers! If you ever need a nudge, or help, or a rant let me know Are you looking forward to your dress appointment in January? xx
SaraPoppy - hello again ? Sorry to hear you didn't get your originally date choice, bright side is you have a few extra weeks to squeeze in those few last minute bits and bobs! I think its lovely you picked a date that means your OH's colleagues can be with you, that's very thoughtful Your theme sounds really nice, and all the little touches will make even more special for you both Sounds like you've got quite a lot done and paid for, I'm impressed! (most of mine is booked and deposits paid ... I'm ignoring having to pay the rest until after Christmas lol) Your photographer sounds like exactly the sort of person you want photographing your special day, hopefully you'll flash some piccies next year What is your dress like btw? Your not alone with dress wobbles, I've had quite a few too ... and don't get me started on the wedding dreams! xx
Happy Polly - glad to hear you got your bridesmaids dresses sorted, that must of been a worry for you trying to get them together and then agree on a dress Gotta love a girly day, I'm having the same with my MOH and bridesmaid on the 3rd Jan ... we're going to look for accessories and my shoes Fingers crossed the flight prices don't get too expensive for your family, at least they have a fair bit of notice. That's quite a scattered family you have there Hope you find your dress without any stress or tears, let us know how you get on! Your centrepieces sound gorgeous, I'm so jealous as I still haven't a clue what to do for mine Feel free to flash a few pics :p Your favours sound nice, I'm doing a similar thing with a butterfly box and Lindt chocolates. I've found the same problem as you though, its impossible to get any chocolates with an expiry after Oct 2015 atm. I might try around Easter... I hope all your guests can make it, although I'm sure you have a lovely day no matter what xx
Sparkly Bear - that sucks that your working all over Christmas I hope you have nice colleagues who make it as stress free and enjoyable as possible, try to day dream about your wedding! At least you can vaguely remember your table plan, it would be awful if you have 200+ guests and no inkling about where you were going to put them Not sure if this idea will work for you, but since I'm getting my bridesmaids a pashmina also this is what I'm doing... We've bought the bridesmaids dresses and nude(ish) shoes with a matching bag, and then I'm aiming to get them a pashmina to match their dress* ... it works really well with the colours we've picked (*I've seen the pashmina I want in store and tried it next to the dress etc, just need to have the money to buy it) I agree with you about white/cream/ivory it's such a faff!! I'm sure you'll squeeze in some invitation making time at some point soon My plans are on hold until after Christmas now, although I have bought my bridesmaids some nice presents I've been feeling guilty that I just asked them outright after hearing about people buying cards & presents so I've bought a few nice pieces and intend to re-ask them on our girly day xx
I get ya! I'm getting something sparkling for midnight this year for the same reason!
We're having the xmas party at the Nottingham Belfry Hotel. Am looking forward to it, ready for a drink. Although, I am full of cold since yesterday and still haven't shifted a cough I have had for 2 months.... but I am still going. Have been looking forward to this!x
I'm almost definitely starting the organisation in the new year. Maybe. It will be my resolution to be more organised :-p
I've got an appointment to try on the new maggie dresses and I'm so excited. I've looked at them online and they're beautiful. I hope I get the ones in I like the most!
HappyPolly - you seem super organised, fancy doing my wedding too? What colours did you decide on? I do like hearing what people are doing colour wise.
LittleMissPanda – I have just noticed that I did not make it clear about my dress. I tried on other cheaper dresses, I liked one at £350 but it was vetoed by my mum, GMIL, FSIL and FMIL once they saw me in the Victoria Kay lace number! They are right though, it looks stunning but I thought ‘stunning’ should not cost me an £500. Anyway as it turns out, mum is paying for the dress so that softens the financial blow. Mum had planned to pay for the dress all along, I only found out on the day. I am an only daughter so if it makes mum happy, then I am happy. I will spend all day in it, probably sleep in it too for the wedding night and get buried in it when I’m dead; that should get me £900 worth of wear out of it!
I am also like you in that I asked the girls outright without cards, etc. I actually don’t even remember asking them, they just knew. I will buy pressies but give them either during hen do or right before wedding. OH is asking his best men with watches on xmas day.
Chocs for favours – I have now given up on finding Ferreros that are in date, my guests will just have a random selection of Ferreros and Lindt.
SaraPoppy - It is impressive that you have managed to have a lot paid for already. I still have the big venue/reception bill to pay for and the church. Like LittleMissPanda, I have tend to the final bills after xmas! We decided to go with all the extras including the heating for the church; if next year Oct is like this year then then it might not be needed though.
AnnaMolly – I actually had a ‘heated discussion’ with FHTB as I was driving him mad with the planning. It is rather difficult to try and not talk about it though. I actually thought that this wedding malarkey would be very easy to plan but I found that even if you find what you like in a very short time, you then spend hours trying to find the best lowest price. Ditto invitations – I quickly found a design a liked only to find that it would cost me £6.50 per card! I then spent days looking for good designs at reasonable prices; I have had to strip out all the loose inserts to keep the price down. RSVPs are now either by email/text/call house phone/whatsupp/ etc…
I picked October as I suffer from terrible hayfever. I did not want to be a sneezy redfaced bride with an itchy throat! But now I am not sure anymore as this year the hayfever dragged on well into Oct which was unseasonably warm. Me thinks strong antihistamine, I think I prefer a slightly ‘woozy bride high on allergy drugs’ than a sneezy one. Any other sneezy brides out there?
We are meeting woth our TOG in January to take test photos at the church we will be married in. He wants to ensure he has got the lighting right for both of us. I am a lot darker than my fiancé; meaning that if TOG uses flash the church, fiancé will look like ghost next to me! I a selfish way, as long as I look good in the photos, that’s all that matters right?
I am also a sneezy bride! Our church is in the middle of a field too so I'm a little worried about the watery eyes and smudged make up! I feel like we have paid for a lot of things but the biggest bill will be the catering and I'm a bit worried about that. We weren't allowed to use outside caterers so we were stuck with the high prices. We a&e paying for most things as we go and we have talked about getting a loan for the catering.
Although I'm worried about the catering, that hasn't stopped me spending money on sequin tablecloths! Totally unnecessary as the table linens are supplied by the venue but they are so pretty! At £40 per cloth unsurprisingly my fiancé said no to covering all our tables. We have compromised on three table cloths and four table runners to tie the other tables in. I'm now rethinking centre pieces though. I like the idea of painted pumpkins. I want gold and white. They are seasonal and cheap and they go with our toffee apple favours.
My dress wobble is still continuing. I'm very aware that it will look different on my than it does on the model on the Internet. I've tried it on and have the pic saved to my phone and I keep comparing the pics. I had my son 8 months ago and I'm worried I still look quite round in the tummy. I've put on weight since I tried the dress on 5 months ago. I'll pop a pic on, not sure where it will end up on this post as whenever I put a pic up it goes where it wants rather than where I want it to! I've bought a big underskirt so hopefully it will more dramatic that the pic. I'm trying to create an optical illusion and make my waist look smaller, haha! Excuse the happy chipmunk face!xx
Sarapoppy - I haven't comnented on this thread for ages as I've been busy but I still get the email notifications and this pic just popped up and my first thought was WOW!! then I read on and saw you were having dress wobbles and I just had to comment.... I think you look stunning and I think this dress is amazing! you look like you have a lovely figure and I would be so so happy to look like you do in this dress.
Thank you ladies. My feelings keep changing about it. I don't think it helps that I am obsessed with a say yes to the dress and keep seeing all these beautiful gowns! I'm planning on having BIG hair for the day. My Nannie wants me to have it up so I'll do that to make her smile. I'm not a fan of my hair being up so I want something that frames my face. I've got my great grandmothers pearls for the day but for the evening I am going to change my earrings and necklace for something a little more bling.
I think I need to take a break from planning and focus on Christmas. I'm driving my fiancé and everyone else around me crazy!xx
Thanks Sparkly Bear, I feel very organised considering! I'm studying HR Management at Derby Uni, it's a 2 year course with a wedding right in the middle of it!!
Yes I hope the weather is good for is Rebeccafcr! You're not far from me at all!
Lots of little bits have started to turn up! I'm so excited!! Our Chinese lanterns, rose petals and the lace I'm using to decorate our jars arrived today. I can't wait to start getting crafty... Simple things eh?!
Morning everyone Hope you are all doing ok today, and had lovely weekends
AnnaMolly - I'm sure once the New Year gets here you'll find yourself being more organised, if your worried about it though have you considered using a wedding planning book? I bought one when I got engaged and its been my lifeline! It has timelines, tick sheets, photos ... everything a disorganised (and easily frazzled) brides needs, and it only cost £6 on Amazon Which dresses have you been looking at? I hope you get to try on the ones you've looking at xx
Happy Polly - ah you probably did make it clear, I most likely didn't read your post properly ... sorry That's really nice of your mum to pay for your dress, you must have been over the moon that you could get the one you really wanted I totally agree with you about spending all day/night and getting buried in your wedding dress, I've told my OH that I'm wearing mine for Halloween from next year onwards! (Bride of Frankenstein hehe) I'm glad I'm not the only one who didn't originally ask with cards etc, I was worrying I'd made a massive faux pas I have bought them cards and a few little presents now, and they'll also get a silly gift for the hen do plus a 2 gifts on the day I love the idea of asking the best men with a watch, that's such a nice idea Let me know how you get on with the chocs, I'm aiming for Lindt as well providing I don't eat them all first... I'm exactly the same as you with hayfever plus other allergies but lucky my medication doesn't make me woozy. Not sure if this helps, but my doctor prescribed me allergy tablets plus a nose spray after I took him that over the counter stuff made me 'fuzzy' Perhaps your GP could do the same for you?? Nothing selfish with wanting to look amazing in your photos, I'm sure your TOG will get it spot on and your OH won't look like a ghost! xx
SaraPoppy- your dress is simply stunning!! You look absolutely gorgeous, and your waist looks teeny (jealous much?!) I'm exactly the same as you, Say Yes To The Dress is always sending me off on a little wobble but then I remember how amazing I feel in my dress and how my niece called me a beautiful princess and I'm fine again Wobbles are more common than I realised, but honestly your dress is amazing and you'll be a beautiful bride Your hair and jewellery choices will set it off perfectly Aw I'm glad your bits and bobs are arriving, they may be simple things to others, but not to us brides!
Glad I'm not the only one driving their OH crazy ? xx
I have 297 days but I'm not excited :-( my feelings about the wedding are all over the place. I desperately want to marry my fiancé but I want to elope. I'm fed up of all the dramas and trying to please everyone. I thought people would just be polite and respect our plans but there have been full on arguments with my fiancés family over who we should invite. After my future mother in laws comment about our wedding being 'a show' I'm feeling a bit upset. We have cut the list to please other people and also to suit our budget. We are having 60 during the day and about 100 for the evening. We thought that was quite small. My fiancés sister actually said she won't come if we invite who we want and she thinks it's best if we elope. We are now both saying that we can't wait for the wedding to be over :-(
I'm excited to be reading about everyone else's plans though! ?
SaraPoppy - you should definitely just do what you want and elope. I can't imagine how stressful that must be with everyone trying to have their say about your day. You don't want your wedding day to be tainted with bad memories. Is going abroad an option for you? Might be a way round it?
Sarapoppy, sorry to hear you are not enjoying it. Weirdly it's similar to how I felt and we even enquired about eloping about 4 weeks before but needed to register the wedding for longer so just went ahead in the end. The day was amazing. People DO behave themselves.
My only advise would be to not discuss your plans with the family. I know it's sad to come to that but then they can't have an opinion and make you feel like rubbish!
