Photobox photobooks

Knownowt, 14 October, 2008 at 15:05 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 11

Has anyone ordered one of these before? What is the quality like? I'm imagining something like a magazine but with thicker pages and hardcovers- is that right? (what a rubbish description ?) What I'm really asking is whether the quality is good enough for them to be nice keepsakey things such as one might like to receive for Christmas?

I have a few of the classic ones. They are like what you describe, the only down side it sometimes the paper can come away slightly from the hardcover - not fall out but leave a gap kind of. More noticeable on mine probably because I went for black cover/pages so there is a big white gap inside at the join. I can try and take a pic to show what I mean?

I still think they are lovely for a gift though. Try to get them in a 2 for 1 promotion or something and they are very good value.

photobox print quality is good - however, their photobooks are cheap looking, badly made, and may well fall apart after a good thumbing (no jokes ?)

    Well mine are nice ?

I think it depends what they are for, a substitute for a professional wedding album or something they definitely are not but for a gift I think they are good for £20 or whatever they cost (or £10 in the deal)

We looked at photobox for our wedding album, but in the end decided they looked a bit cheap, and you couldn't customise them as much as we wanted to.

We went with bobbooks in the end, very pleased with them (got large for us, small ones for parents, grandparents etc). I have a money off code at home I think, if you'd be interested.

IIRC they are a bit more expensive (from £30 up IIRC) but we were very happy with the quality.

Someone recommended bobbooks to us, and I am currently working on christmas presents for the parents and in-laws.

Is the inside cover of a well thumbed one. Excuse the ripples - that one got ruined after having a drink spilled over it.

Also on the last page is a photobox logo which may or may not bother you

I really like ours, we've done wedding ones for us and our parents as well as a few as big birthday presents eg my dad's 50th and my H Granddads 80th.

Ours are well made and made nice keepsake things. Everyone we've given them to has loved them, i think its the fact that you put thought and effort into it as well as them being well made.

I also like blurb.com and my publisher - both pretty good price and good printing Smiley smile

I got a photobox album about a year ago. It's ok, but not great.

Bobbooks are good and Metro are doing a 10% off deal at the moment (offer code METRO)

Blurb are supposed to be good, and a review in one of the photography mags last month had the following:

fotobook.co.uk - 5/5 for interface, print quality and value for money. 4/5 for finish and bind
Yophoto - 5/5 for interface, finish and build and value for money. 4/5 for print quality.

When I first used them a few years ago they were actually really good. I recently ordered 3 from them and had to send them all back to be redone because of the issue that Jaz had. They told me that they had changed suppliers - the red cover changed colours which is why I raised it - and I don't think they are as good anymore.

I did one for my mum for her 60th birthday and she loved it. I think the sentiment of being given it as a gift was the key thing rather than her checking out the quality.

I wouldn't have used it as a replacement for a wedding album.

I have recently been using https://www.photobox.co.uk and they are fabulous! really quick delivery (it was ready and printed in 3days) and the quality was great.

You have a choice of digital printing and photopaper printing and both are excellent. What I really did like was that a photo spread over two pages comes out really well, you can properly open the book so no part of the photo gets "lost" in the middle.

What I didn't like is that you only have the option of hardcover so if you want spiral or soft you can't.

I gave one away as a gift and it was very appreciated and also the editing features such as writing etc are plenty and more importantly (for me?) easy to use.
