Prickly armpits

R-A, 18 March, 2009 at 19:19 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 26

Am I the only woman to have no idea wtf "prickly armpits" are a la the recent Dove adverts?

If your armpits are hairy then just shave, no? If they are not hairy then how the hell can you feel them being prickly?

Confused of London.

Yup, just another symptom created by marketing people.

I don't know the advert you're referring to, but surely it just means stubble. If you're dark haired, you can get stubble even if you;ve shaved your armpits that morning.

Dove are trying to sella range of deodorant for "prickly armpits" comparing underarms to a cactus.

I get stubble with the best of 'em, but I must say I've never been aware of it being particularly bothersome or "prickly".

Maybe I just have unusually insensitive armpits? (to match the rest of me ?)

I've got prickly legs at the moment, I am scared to open the fridge In case the hairs spear cheese and make me look like a cheese buffet hedgehog.

    They're ever so sharp.

    I love you Beff. ?

My armpits get prickly. Stubble is by definition, prickly. I can't really see what the problem is.

It's just a light hearted thread Mrs W.

Obviously I am alone in not being able to sense pricking under my arms.

I'm with Winkle on this one. I think it's just refering to stubble. The very short stubbly growth, just before you really become aware of it.

Or is that just me? ?

But ... if it is referring to stubble a deodrant isn't going to help is it?

I think you'll find that on the telly 'armpits' do not exist. They are underarms.

and even if it does have a tiny amount in (I have a feeling it must do, otherwise the advert makes even less sense), that must be the least efficient way of de-fuzzing ever invented.

can you imagine how many cans of dove you'd get through.

    (maybe that's the point?)

Maybe it just means it's a moisturising one, that softens the stubble perhaps? ?

I think there are some lotions or some such that claim to reduce regrowth. Lord knows how, I'm pretty sure they're not the same as depilatories, but I assumed it was something like that, inhibiting regrowth in some way. ?

There is no way they'd put a depilatory in - surely?

Ah.... just looked at the webpage, it works by smoothing the hair to make feel it softer and finer and plumps the skin. PMSL so essentially moisturises and conditions.

    ? at armpit conditioner!

I'm guessing that in much the same way "armpits" aren't as marketable as "underarms" are "stubble" isn't as sexy as 'prickly"!

When I was last in Boots I saw the new range of deodrants that Dove has brought out which claims to lessen hair regrowth? I've no idea how or if it works but i'm willing to give it a try! <suckericon>

I thought the query was about the term prickly armpits, as opposed to wheether it works or not. I doubt it does <buys some just in case> but there certainly is such a thing as prickly armpits.

But if you let it grow, it stops being spiky and goes silky! I grew mine as a youth in an attempt to reflect my inner-artist. Feck knows what that was about! You could practically dred it by the time I was done!
