Registry wedding/registrar

Ariadne, 15 June, 2021 at 23:17 Posted on Planning 0 8
Hi all!
Now this might be a silly question, but my other half and I have wanted to get married for a while and this evening I have been researching all about how to go about it. Neither of us is religious and we don’t want a big hotel wedding either, we both agree we’d like a small intimate wedding at a registry office and maybe a party at home later or for our 1 year anniversary.
My question is: other than our two witnesses, does anyone have to be at the registry office when we get married? What is the point in a registrar, do we have to have one and why are they so bloody expensive 😂 I really just want a no fuss, no frills ceremony with just my other half and obviously whoever else *has* to be there. If anyone could help me out that would be so great! The info online is more than a little bit confusing lol. Thanks guys!

    Hi Smiley smile

The registrar conducts the ceremony so they do have to be there. Then just your two witnesses and that’s it.

I was really shocked at the cost for a registrar, I thought it would be around £300 but ours is nearly £800 !!!

My registrar is only just over £100. I'm not getting married in a registry office, but my registrar is conducting the ceremony for us. Could the price go by the area of council? Xx best wishes

Have you looked into Gretna Green? They have very reasonable packages for couples and the registrar ranges from about 300 to 500 depending on the day. I was looking at Gretna but we’ve decided to leave the planning until things are back to normal, or at least a new normal.
