Ring shopping

Probably just going to a high street place. How long would you leave it before the wedding day. Like how long do most places recommend for alterations?

My wedding ring was not in stock in my size, it took about 2weeks for it to come in to the shop, and then I went in to try on and check sizing and then another 3 weeks to resize, this was Ernest jones but others may differ. I would say give yourself 3 months minimum to complete purchase just to be safe. Dependent on when your wedding is I would also suggest looking around and choosing the one you want and wait for Black Friday, my H2B saved 45% on my engagement ring doing it that way, not that he is tight but a saving is a saving and can but the difference towards other wedding costs

I'd start looking around now as jewelers often do big discounts throughout the year - we went to one high street jeweler to get our ring sizes and the sales lady very helpfully told us to hold off on ordering and sure enough, a month later, it was buy one get one half price on wedding rings, which saved us around £45!

I wouldn’t leave it too late just in case sizes are not in stock and need to be ordered in. Generally 4 months before the wedding should be plenty of time

We have decided to go to a jewellery workshop and make our wedding bands, as it comes in cheaper for us than going to a high street shop

At the moment I’d say go sooner rather than later. Because of the conflict in Ukraine, prices for precious metals are going up constantly. So you might save a few hundred going sooner. Good luck whatever you decide Smiley smile

FH got my e-ring from an indie jeweller and it had to be resized down 6 sizes because apparently I have tiny fingers haha - it only took about a week to be resized and that was at a time they said they were short staffed due to people being out with covid.

I did recently take in an eternity band that was my grandma's that I'm tempted to have resized to become my wedding band - because the diamonds are sunken in and there is some detail on the gold this is a bit trickier to do and I was advised 3 months in advance to be on the safe side.

So basically I think it depends on the style of ring and the complexity. Worth popping into some jewellers and having a chat so you don't get caught out I'd say.
