Super quick wedding as fiancé has terminal cancer

Lisa, 12 July, 2022 at 11:53 Posted on Planning 0 21
My bf has just proposed as he’s got less than 6 months with terminal cancer and is going through chemo. 💔
We need something super quick.
I’ve got no idea where to start. It’d just be us and maybe few others max.
What’s the quickest way? Just registry office? Is there waiting lists at registry offices? Can registrars go to other places quickly. Like eg a beach or somewhere that means something?
We’re based in Newcastle.
Thank you in advance. Lisa

So sorry to hear this. If I were you I'd call your local registry office. If you explain the situation to them I'm sure they'll be able to help/do everything they can to get it sorted asap. Good luck!

How awful for you but beautiful that he proposed. I’m sorry you are going through this.
I would also ring registry office and ask for nearest date they have available . You can get them to come to licensed venues but it will be busy as peak wedding season so I would think they could be booked up at hotels etc.
Wishing you lots of beautiful memories together

Congratulations on your engagement but so sorry to hear your sad news.

It may be worth contacting https://www.giftofawedding.org/ - they are a charity who organise weddings for people in similar situations. Lots of suppliers on there will offer their services for a reduced cost or even for free at short notice. Might be worth a look.
Wishing you both a wonderful wedding xxx

Laura- these posts come from bots and are spam, they are not real forum members. Hitched have a massive problem with it and I have complained loads of times. Just ignore them, every so often one of their staff goes through and removes them all (what a job!)

We’ve just planned a very quick wedding for a 100 guests - had 8 weeks. I would say the single thing that made everything easier was choosing a Sunday to get married on. Meant we had loads of choice with photographer and florist as most get booked up with Friday and Saturday weddings. Registrar was also readily available. Registrar wise you need to choose your venue and then get your meeting with registrar booked asap. As I think once you’ve had your meeting (at which you have to confirm your venue) it takes 28 days before you can get married. (Also I was surprised that the registrar cost £500.)
So photographer, florist and registrar were the first three things we got booked along with getting invites out.
We chose a venue that also has a restaurant as we’ve been there lots of times and I like the idea of being able to go back there rather than it being a wedding only machine as I think it’s nice to be able to go back to the place to relive the happy memories. Dress wise most bridal shops were happy to sell off the peg to me but most sample sizes are 12-14. I was very pleased with Whistles wedding dresses. Also I used my Next Pay card to order a load of wedding dresses from Next in order to try on at home. Then I was able to return them really easily without having had to shell out any money to order them in the first place…and you do need to try a few on!Wishing you lots of love, it will will such a meaningful day for you both xxx

Thank you for checking in. Too busy with chemo appointments and trying to get back to uk.
But. I’ve bought my dress and I love it. And chosen an engagement ring. Had to do it all on my own 😔. Finally managed go get through to registrars. Not helpful - come and make an appointment when you’re back in uk…. Grrr. X

I'm so sorry to read about your partner. My mother has cancer and we're trying to get married ASAP. ID defo call your local registry office as uou have to give notice for a certain peorid of time but they may make exemptions in certain situations. Local council websites usually list where you can have the legal bits of the ceremony. Once you've got the official bit out of the way you can pretty much have a big celebration. Also, try and ask family and friends for help, it can be mentally, emotionally and physically draining caring for someone with cancer let alone organising a wedding on top. Xx
