I remember, as a 2 or 3 year old in about 1970, the Sainsburys in Kenton. It was divided into two halves and in one part there were individual stalls all around the room for meat, fish, cheese etc. But what really sticks in my mind is that there was sawdust on the floor! It's so hard to imagine that...

It's so hard to imagine that these days.

When I did my first 2 degrees we did not have computers. Everything was hand written. There was no internet; everything required books from the library and waiting for someone else to finish with them and inter library loans.

What do you remember that seems so old fashioned but really wasn't that long ago?

Watching the Fraggles (I loved that programme!)

Buying an Apple on my way to school everyday.

My Dad driving an old Cortina, thinking it was the bees knees.

The launch of Eastenders and Brookside.

My Grandparents being one of the first people to own a VHS video.

Watching a pirated copy of ET on video (piracy was alive and well even then! ?) before it came out at the cinema.

Crying at ET, but watching it again and again.

Singing rhymes such as Farmers in his Den, Oranges and Lemons etc in the school playground.

Black Beauty, and its poor cousin, Follyfoot.

    Cabbage Patch dolls.

    Smiths crisps. Butterkist popcorn.

Playing outside in the summer heatwaves.

Swiss roll served with evaporated milk.

Well, since I'm back at Uniersity among a whole load of 18 year olds, almost everything makes me feel ancient ?. I was sitting next to one of them while we were doing a computer practical on Face blindness (ie not remembering people's names/faces), one of the pictures was of Maggie Thatcher and the girl next to me had no idea who she was - but in fact she was only a baby when Thatcher was ousted from power - I felt truly ancient!

Yup it was Bunty. My parent's friend gave me a huge box of old Bunty's and I used to read them manically.

There was a ghosty type story about a girl from the Revolution which I adored!
