This must be a scam, but how?

Headless Lois, 4 August, 2008 at 17:15 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 5

Telephone call - I answer phone and there's a message 'I have a call for you'. I am then put through to what sounds, inevitably, like an Indian call centre where some guy tells me I am in/have won a lottery for 12000 euros, confirms my home address, asks me if I play the national lottery, and hangs up.

So, I feel like I MUST have been scammed - but how?

Did you have to press any buttons to be put through? sometimes these connect to a premium rate number.

Or maybe you have won the lottery, even though you didn't buy a ticket ?

But you were "put through" to another number - could they have connected you to a high premium phone line at that point?

I don't know - is that possible without pressing/dialling anything?

I don't see why not. If you ring up a company and the person who answers puts you through to a colleague, you don't press anything. Was there a long gap between the person who answered and the next person you spoke to? Did you hear a dialling tone?

No, it was a seamless transaction.

Anyway, fabulously, we have today being trying to work out where we are getting a bill for this phone line. It doesn't appear on our business bills, or our personal bills.
