tinnitus (sp?)

stafoo, 21 January, 2009 at 15:10 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 3

Hi guys

Usually post on BT, so sorry for barging into OT and being needy with my first post, but need some advice

About 2 months ago, i started hearing a very high pitched ringing in my right ear. It's intermittent but very piercing. When i'm talking, watching telly, listening to music it's not too bad, but while I'm at work or trying to sleep it drives me completely bonkers.

So far i've figured it's one of 3 things.

My wisdom teeth causing some kind trouble (the top ones are out, but very cramped).

Permanent hearing damage from wearing a telephone headset (haven't worn it regularly for about 4 years tho).

or some kind of ear infection. However I don't have any pain in the ear at all.

Anyone have any experience to share? If this is permanent i'm going to need some coping strategies i think... ☹️

TIA?

I dont think any two sufferers of tinnitus have the same thing tbh, Ive had it for 25 years in my right ear, but mine is like someone tapping a drum, sometimes its v noticable sometimes not so. Might be worth a visit to the doctors to see what they say. Theres a few tinnitus sufferers on OT as far as I know as there was a huge thread about it a few months ago. You might get some more info from them.

I've suffered with it for years. But, i have recently been diagnosed with the early stages of méniere's disease (Aged 28... eeek).

If you haven't already, you must go and see your doctor. They will probably do an MRI on you, as tinnitus in one ear is quite uncommon.

I find that stress, and tiredness makes it so much worse, and if I have a cold, gah, it's torture!

Sorry if this is stating the bleeding obvious, but have you been to your GP?

Could be something easily and quickly dealt with (e.g. wax), could be a drug side effect, could be something else entirely that needs looking into.

    Thanks for you replies

No, I've not been to the GP yet, I will make an appointment next week. I;m seeing the dentist for a checkup tomorrow so I'll ask him about the wisdom teeth theory then. To be honest I thought it had gone away last week, but it's back with a vengence this week. I do have a slight jaw ached from the wisdom teeth, so perhaps that is the culprit?
