Too old for princess type dress?

Lisa, 18 of February of 2024 at 21:40 Posted on Wedding Attire 0 21

Hiya I've never posted on here before but I'm seriously having doubts about my dress choice. I've never been married before and I have 3 almost adult children I raised alone, I was single for 15 years before meeting my partner. He proposed after 6 months of us being together and so we set a date and I went out all excited and chose a dress. We have since decided to push the date back to May 2025. Because I now have a big gap to wait for the wedding I'm having doubts about the dress! I'm 44 and I just think the dress is too much for someone my age and the fact that my kids will be 22, 19 and 18! what do you all think?

Hi Lisa , congratulations. You are not too old , that dress is stunning and very classy . I’m 44 now , and I’m getting married in June , I will be 45 in September . I know how you will be feeling , I was wondering if I was too old for a veil , as I decided to get one for pictures . I also had doubts about my dress too , but i genuinely do love it , as I’m sure you do yours . It’s a second marriage for me too .

I’ve just added the pics as I’m an older bride , and although our dresses are different silhouettes I was unsure of mine with the long train detail as I originally didn’t want one , but just fell for it .

Your dress is stunning! Your feelings are perfecty natural. I bought my dress last month and constantly second guess myself as to if i’m too old for it. Then I remind myself that age means nothing when you are a bride! You deserve to feel and look like a princess on your special day! Im also an older bride. I’ll be 47 when I wed next summer. I was a single mum for years and didn’t meet my fiancé until 9 years ago. He is the father of my 6 yr old. He’s been a wonderful step dad to my older 3 (26, 15 and 15). My nieces and daughters will be my bridesmaids ( there’s 7 of them!) and they are mainly teenagers. I always planned to have my oldest friends as the bridesmaids when I was younger but never met the one until later in life. Now my would have been flower girls are young ladies, i am honoured to have them as my bridesmaids. They will be escorted by their brothers and dads. Xx

First, congratulations on your decision to marry and the wedding plans. It is completely usual to feel unsure or have doubts about the dress you picked, especially when there's a longer time before your special day. Age is only a number, and feeling comfortable and beautiful in your clothes is what matters most. If you have doubts about your outfit, perhaps try looking for different choices or styles that suit you better. In the end, it is your own unique day, so feeling sure and joyful about what you choose matters most. You might consider including your children in making this choice if that seems like it could assist. Trust your instincts and go with what feels right for you.

Hey. I'm an older bride and I got fed up with what's available in bridal shops. In the end I drew what I wanted and took it to a dressmaker to make. Do consider as an option.

I’ve just turned 45, no kids and getting married for the first (and only I hope) time next month. Buy whatever dress you feel most beautiful in. It’s your day, wear what YOU want to and feel comfortable in. I couldn’t give a stuff what anyone thinks lol x

Too old for princess type dress? 5

I'll be 50 when I get married for the first time next year - yes, that does freak me out sometimes! But I have already got my dress. It's floaty, princessy and I love it! Wear whatever you feel comfortable in and don't overthink it too much Smiley heart

    Hello,

Firstly, congratulations on your engagement! It's completely natural to have doubts and second thoughts about your dress choice, especially with a significant gap until the wedding date. The most important thing is that you feel comfortable and confident on your special day.

Wishing you a beautiful wedding day filled with love and joy!

Don't doubt yourself, I'm sure you will look beautiful. I photographed a wedding before COVID where a 40+ bride was wearing something similar and it was stunning on her.

    Hi Lisa,

    Congratulations!

Your dress is beautiful. You are never too old to wear the dress that you want to wear. My husband and I both got married for the first time last year aged 52.

Hi! Congrats on the engagement!!! And I totally get you! I’m an older bride too and I have had my share of family criticism for wanting to wear a bridal gown! But you know what? We deserve it!!!! We deserve to feel beautiful and be happy! I’m way over my ideal weight, but I still plan to enjoy myself and go wedding dress shopping. So do yourself a favor, choose the dress of your dreams and wear it with a smile and a full heart! We are so lucky that we get to plan a wedding!!! Enjoy it!!!!

Never too old to be a princess! I don't think it would matter if I were 21 or 81, I would still get my princess dress! Maybe have a little think to see if it's honestly because of your age or the dress itself, maybe princess is the style you want, but just not the right dress or if you do want a different shape. BUT, if it is just because of your age, don't worry in the slightest! My mum got married for the first time, in her late 40s and wore an amazing, body-hugging mermaid dress that at first she thought she was 'too old' for but she never felt more beautiful and honestly, you can still see the confidence boost it gave her 5/6 years later! she was also a single mum for years, I was 23 when she got married, and seeing her so confident was a beautiful moment for me Smiley heart If you want the princess look, have it! It's your day, if you feel beautiful and confident in it, that's all that matters Smiley heart
