Torn between two venues - HELP!!!

Katianne, 10 August, 2013 at 16:36 Posted on Planning 0 26

Some of you may have read my previous thread where I explained that we have had to cancel our wedding that was booked for this February, do to costs and a few other issues.

We have decided to go for something more local and today have been to view two venues, both which we like and now need to choose between. Now this is the hard part! I am going to outline both options in the hope that fellow hitchers can help us with our decision, as at the moment we are a bit stumped! Let's start with some photos..

The Barns, Cannock, Staffordshirdshire

Hawkesyard Hall, Armitage, Staffordshire

Costs

The Barns

£2500 for....

Hire of all the rooms

Drink after ceremony

Wedding breakfast for 70 adults and 10 children - 2 courses, Hog roast and desserts.

Drink for each guest with meal

Drink for each guest to toast

Evening Buffet

DJ

Bridal suite for the night of the wedding

Hawkesyard Hall

£4500 for...

Hire of all the rooms

Drink after ceremony

Wedding breakfast for 70 adults and 10 children - 2 courses, Hog roast and desserts.

Drink for each guest with meal

Drink for each guest to toast

Evening Buffet

DJ

Bridal suite for the night before and of the wedding.

The Barns - Pros

Price!!!

More laid back atmosphere

Lovely rooms (Barn conversion)

Several rooms to utilise

Accommodation for 40+ guests on site

Music until 1am

The Barns - Cons

No grounds for more rural photos. Would need to use Cannock Chase (5 minute drive) for photos of bride and groom.

Offered a Saturday at a mid week price.

Hawkesyard - Pros

Lovely location and buildings

Can accommodate bride, bridesmaids and parents the night before.

Grounds for photos

Hawkesyard - Cons

More formal (not necessary a con, I'm just more or an informal girl as a rule)

Price

No late licence - need to finish by 12am

Can only afford if we go for midweek (Mon-Thurs).

PLEASE HELP ?

I'd go for the cheaper one especially as money has been an issue before.

Just think what you can buy with the £2k 'saved' by not going for the cheaper venue.

From your list The Barns seems to have better pros, especially the cheaper price and the fact you could have it on a Saturday.

It looks like a beautiful venue as well ;-)

I prefered the look of the barns and then saw it was so much cheaper for a sat wedding too. No question for me. Think of the honeymoon you could have with the £2k you'd save!

I know, they have offered us a really good deal. I am one for a bargain, so I just want to make sure I'm not just going for it because of the money.

Hawkesyard is lovely and I suppose it has the 'grand' feel to it, with it being an estate. But I said to my partner that our wedding is what we make of it. It's about us being happy and enjoying the day. Plus I am more of a rustic laid back girl, and the Barns has that same feel.

My mum has said that I will only do it once and I shouldn't let the money make the decision, but I do really like the venue and at the end of the day we only have so much money to spend!

I have contacted the Barns already and they have said they will hold the Saturday for 2 weeks while we decide.

Ok so the barns have provisionally held the Saturday date for us. I have emailed our photographer to ask if she's free then, as that's the other contributing factor.

Can I just ask, am I right in thinking that's a pretty good price for everything we're getting? I think it is a really good deal....?

Hell yes! I'm also getting married in a converted barn in Staffordshire and I'm paying £1000 for more than you and that's only for hire of the venue on a week day, not including food or anything else.

    That's a fantastic price!!

'm embarrassed to think about what mine cost but there just don't seem to be many cheaper venues where I live. Yours is lovely even when you take money out the equation!

Yey I thought it sounded pretty good. Small snag is that our lovely TOG is booked on the Saturday the venue has offered, so asking if they can offer any other dates. Fingers crossed!

I don't think you need any more help - but I agree the Barns is gorgeous, I especially love the beams in the ceremony room. The price seems like a bargain to me!

If you go midweek, you may find you don't need the late licence (depending on whether you can have a Friday or not) because people are more likely to leave early if they are working the next day.

If you pay £2000 extra because somewhere has better grounds and it buckets down with rain, you may regret it.
