Trying to find a black wedding dress

Hi all,

I have been married before so obviously this will be second time around for me!

This time round I want the total opposite to how my first wedding day was and my fiancé echoes this as well! He's been married before too!

I really want a black wedding dress but options are really slim in comparison and there is no way I'm spending 3k on a dress that will probably end up in a charity shop or in a box in loft (just quoting from my own past experience). Is anyone else having the same issue with trying to find a black wedding dress that won't cost the earth?

    Any dress can be a wedding dress if you say it is one! Instead of hunting specifically for black wedding dresses, have you tried looking at black prom dresses & seeing if any of those look like something you'd want to get married in?

    ETA: as illustration, here are a few "prom dresses" that I'm absolutely certain would be advertised as bridal if they were white instead of black.

    I definitely second Anna's suggestion of looking for prom dresses (maybe also evening gowns on department store websites). Also have a look at Rock n Roll Bride Magazine and Website - they advertise a lot of alternative dress sellers!

    Thanks all, already exhausted those searches. I have in my head what I want my dress to be - I have until mid 2024 - hopefully something will caught my eye!

    I really wanted a black dress also I went for a black vintage 1950s dress from British retro with a black petticoat.
    I'm 5ft3 so wanted a tea length dress. Plenty of places have black dresses or you could buy a dress of your dreams and dye it black.

    Thank you, I have something in my head which I know I will be able to buy somewhere. I want a black lace mermaid dress. Your dress sounds lovely! Yup clothing dye is always an option!

    The wedding gown designer that I’m using does some black dresses: Maggie Sottero.


    She has a beautiful mermaid one called Zander Lanehttps://www.maggiesottero.com/sottero-and-midgley/zander-lane/18429

    I don’t know how much it costs though. If cost is a bigger concern the evening gown route might be better. Have you looked at EverPretty?

    I have a beautiful black wedding dress for my wedding next year from David’s Bridal. They have a few UK stores where you can try it on and it’s not £3k 😅Trying to find a black wedding dress 5

    Yes - I now have my dress off there and my own mother is happy with the style too (bonus as we don't usually see eye to eye) Smiley smile

    Yeah it is! It was love at first sight, I didn’t go in looking for a black dress either. 😅 I’ve got it hidden at home too, apparently I was the first person in the UK to buy this dress in black. It also comes in ivory
