Has anyone used uplighters to transform their function room? We've had a quote today of £152 to have uplighters all around the room to match our colour scheme. I absolutely love the idea but with us getting married a few weeks before summer solstice (light evenings etc) I can't imagine whether they would have the same dramatic effect I would like.

Do you think it would be a waste of money?

(it would give this kind of effect on a smaller scale)

We had a very similar debate for our own venue last year, so I can totally see where you’re coming from. Uplighters can look absolutely stunning, but their impact really depends on timing and the amount of natural light in the room.

From what I’ve seen, when they’re used in brighter summer evenings (especially around solstice), they often don’t “pop” until later in the night when it starts getting darker. That said, they still help set a soft mood and tie your colour scheme together, even if it’s more subtle during the day.

A good trick is to plan with your DJ or lighting installer to switch them up gradually as daylight fades so you actually get two effects in one evening. A lighting setup guide from professionals like LS Electrician Singapore often highlights how layered lighting (uplighters + warm ambient + focused dance floor lighting) makes a much bigger difference than uplighters alone.

If you want to explore what a proper setup might look like, you could also take a look at some practical lighting examples just click here , it might help you visualise how different room conditions affect the result.

Overall, I wouldn’t call it a waste of money, but I’d treat it as part of a bigger lighting atmosphere rather than the main feature during daylight.
