Viking Wedding

I would go along to some reenactment fairs and get chatting to people. Many reenactors put a lot of effort into their costumes and would be delighted to give you some ideas. They might also be able to put you in touch with costumers who might be able to help you with designs.

Melanie, I don't have any advice but I just want to say you're an inspiration by going with this viking wedding. Really are. Because since my H2B proposed he's always mentioned a viking wedding and I was stressing about where to start he actually changed his mind. So I honestly have so much respect for you. You'll have to keep us updated, have great time planning!!!!

I love this theme, my family are from Denmark so Vikings are a big part of my heritage. You can find a lot online about traditional Viking dresses. It might work well if you can find modern dresses with some of these elements incorporated. Most bridal shops wont stock that type of thing, but there's no reason you cant go to one if you just want to have the bridal shop experience. You aren't under any obligation to buy when you go to these.

I think you will probably have to go searching online for what you want or to get it made. There are places that specialise in period costumes, perhaps speak to one of those as they may have some knowledge about where you can get something.

I've been wondering this too. I would love to know where to start with it all. We live in Durham and are torn between lumley castle and somewhere in the woods or on a farm. It's not going to be a huge wedding for us. Max 30 guests and kids too so won't be late either so unsure on where to begin x

View quoted message I'm not doing a huge wedding, I think with just the family members we like 😅 and then a handful of friends and kids were looking at 60, alot of people have said they might not bring the kids haha.
I always knew I'd go for woods, your best bet is just to view loads of different venues and see what gives you fireworks (that's how I've been rating it haha)
Viking weddings are usually on Friday (After the goddess Frigg / Freya) Viking weddings normally consists of loots of food ( we're going for bbq and hog roast, I didn't want anything formal or classy) and games (bridal run is a traditional game) and booze (I'm getting engraved drinking horns for me and my H2B) Tradition states there is an exchange of swords at the ceremony (we're doing wooden which we can engrave) the groom to the bride to be able to pass down to their son and heir, the bride to the groom to pass the job as protector from her father to her husband.Then there's the handfasting, is not a legal way to marry in the UK 🙄 but can still be part of the ceremony - basically doing your vows with ribbon or cloth tying your hands. I'm tempted to go for a dip hem simply because long dresses will end up annoying me or tripping me up 🤣 I'm not going for anything that straight or "clean" as I put it as its not my style haha. Found a fur Cape thing on jjs House which looks gorgeous. But also thought of ending up in biker boots and leather jacket by the evening haha x

I've told my bridesmaid the colour I want and I've given them a budget as to what I'll pay, it'll they go over then they pay. Just want them comfortable and in a style they like. I've been BM before and the dresses they put me in were hideous on me and i hated it. Xx💙
