Wedding away from home

Elizabeth1990, 10 March, 2025 at 13:19 Posted on Planning 0 9
Hi everyone, just started wedding planning and would love some advice if poss! We live in Northampton but are potentially thinking of a venue in the Lake District which is where we stayed when we got engaged. It is over 4 hours away and I wondered how to go about booking flowers, hair and make up. Is it best to find companies already in the Lake District? I’m unsure if anyone would travel from Northampton to do hair and make up and also unsure how to transport/store flowers all that way. I also have a cake maker in mind from Northampton but not sure it would survive the car journey!? Attending hair and make up trials could be tricky due to the distance. How does it all work! Any advice would be great. Thank you! Smiley smile

With flowers, you should be able to sort that out with a zoom call. And the same with a photographer. It's trickier for things where you actually need to be present for trials, but perhaps you could arrange a couple of overnight stays in the area to do this. As for the cake, it depends on how fancy a cake you are having - it might be worth having a chat with the Northampton supplier you are considering, to see if they think the type of cake you want would transport ok.

Photography wise 4 hours is a long way and they may require an overnight stay and depending on the time of the wedding 2 overnight stays. Another thing, if a photographer needs to travel on the motorway for any length of time there is always the risk of getting stuck in traffic. Yes you can get stuck on any road but with a motorway there is less chance of being able to get off.

Something else, a photographer needing to travel to shoot a wedding -- did they also do it yesterday before shooting your wedding ? Back to back weddings are tough enough without having next to no sleep the night before.

A local photographer will also know the area - know the short cuts - know the areas to avoid, may of worked at the venue before and the other suppliers. And then there is the environmental aspect of choosing local suppliers.

Congratulations on your engagement! 🥰 Since the Lake District is quite a distance, it’s usually easier to book local suppliers for flowers, hair, and makeup, as they’ll know the area and you won’t have the stress of transporting everything. For trials, some artists might offer them closer to your home or even do a virtual consultation first. As for the cake, many couples either book a police clearance or local baker near the venue or arrange delivery directly to the venue rather than transporting it themselves. Definitely worth asking venues for their recommended suppliers too!"

That sounds really exciting! 🎉 Since your venue is quite far from home, it’s usually easier (and less stressful) to book suppliers who are already based in the Lake District — especially for flowers, hair and makeup, and the cake, since transporting those from Northampton could be tricky. You can always do video calls for trials or planning chats if travel is hard. It’s kind of like when you look for the Activity Launcher Old Version — sometimes the best option is finding what works locally rather than carrying things a long way. Wishing you smooth planning and a beautiful wedding!

Planning a wedding away from home is definitely exciting, but also challenging. Just like with official documents, where you now have the option for a police clearance online appointment, it is always easier to handle things locally or through digital platforms when possible. For suppliers like flowers, cakes, and makeup, going local around the venue can save you stress on the big day. Wishing you smooth planning and a beautiful celebration!

Planning a wedding far from home can definitely feel overwhelming, but many couples make it work smoothly! It’s usually easier to hire local vendors near the Lake District for flowers, hair, and make-up since they know the area well and are used to traveling to venues. For the cake, some bakers offer delivery services or can recommend a trusted baker in that region. You can also schedule trials on a weekend trip to finalize everything in advance. And if you ever think about improving comfort for guests staying at home before or after the event, a whole-home air purifier Columbia TN service can keep the indoor air fresh and pleasant. Wishing you the best with your planning, sounds like a beautiful location!

In the Philippines, one way to verify a person’s legal status is by securing a clearance from the Philippine National Police, which confirms police clearance whether an individual has any criminal or derogatory history. Planning a wedding in the Lakes from Northampton sounds dreamy but yeah, logistics can feel daunting at first. Echoing others go local wherever possible! We did Cornwall from the East Midlands and regretted trying to bring suppliers down. Local florists often have storage fridges at/near venues, and for H&MU, search for mobile teams in the Windermere/Keswick area—they're pros at destination brides. Cake transport : either source locally or ask the venue for trusted recommendations (ours even had preferred bakers). Book trials strategically—combine with a venue revisit and make a weekend of it. The end result is so magical in those surroundings. Excited for you
