Wedding Dress Panic

Niko, 18 June, 2022 at 23:56 Posted on Wedding Attire 0 17
Hello! I’m supposed to be getting married in December 2022, and after reading these forums I’ve realized I’ve left it too late. I didn’t realize how long it would take to sort the dress out. Urm… What do I do? I live in London, so I was just wondering if anyone knows of any places I can go for QUICK and efficient service?

Decide on a few shops and when you go be really upfront that you'd need it for December and see what they say. Some places might be able to do it, especially if they're designers that work in London- a lot of these places will also have sample sales, so times shouldn't be an issue with those Smiley smile

If you go to Wed2be you can buy off the peg and take it home with you, you would need to get it altered yourself unless you are lucky enough that it fits in the first place. But yes I am afraid you have left it late. I ordered my dress in sept 2021 for my wedding this July. The dress didn’t arrive until April 2022 and I only brought it home a week ago after alterations! Good luck

Hi Niko, Congratulations! I’m getting married in October and I ordered my dress three weeks ago.
I didn’t purposely leave it late but we wanted to get married this year/have a short engagement.
My dress is due to arrive in store 5 weeks before, leaving time for alterations, which I’ve already got an appointment for. I’m in London and I went to David’s Bridal in Stratford/Westfield. They were amazing, they have a huge range of beautiful dresses, I explained to the stylist that I only had 4 months until the wedding. All of the dresses I tried on were within my budget and available to be ordered in time. I went with two friends, we had a great afternoon and couldn’t fault them! I would recommend visiting if you can get to Stratford, you can book a bridal appointment online. Good luck!

You have a few options - most shops will have a sale rail of sample dresses that you can buy to take away on the day. You could also look at second-hand dress shops. Or consider buying from a high-street or mail order company.

I had a week to get a dress (the shop where I'd put a deposit on a dress said they couldn't get it altered in time and I'd need to postpone my wedding!!!) and got one mail-ordered with a couple of days to spare!

I’d really recommend brides do good in Kensington. Everything is donated either as samples by designers or by former brides, a third of the cost goes to charity and you can walk away with it on the day. A really great cause and the gowns are stunning.

There are also a few other sample/secondhand shops I found but didn’t go to around london area: brides dress revisited, Preloved and perfect bridal, bridal reloved
    Good luck!

I bought mine second hand believe it or not and I have only just purchased it (for a September wedding) so please don't panic. If you are happy with not wearing a new dress there are loads of pre-loved bridal websites. It's not too late for a new dress either so don't listen to any negative comments, go with the suggestions already given, and good luck x

Try not to panic, give a few local bridal shops a call to find out the delivery timings they have. I’m getting married at beginning of October and only got my dress in April. I’m not in London, but didn’t have an issue with finding bridal shops who could get my dress back in plenty of time for fittings. Good luck with it all

My sister got engaged in Feb and is getting married in July, you can absolutely do it but you might need to do off the peg for bridal and bridesmaids… you may also still find seamstresses who can adjust though, December is still a while away, my sister found someone. She got her dress from wed2b and it’s stunning x

Have a look at Monsoon. They do beautiful wedding dresses and despatch very quickly! When you’ve sorted alterations (if needed) you’ll still have time before your wedding!

That's not true. I got engaged in December, bought the dress early February and getting married in two weeks. Just had my final fitting.

I think it must just depend on the store and what you have in mind. I bought from a sample sale and the shop were able to do the alterations no problem.

    Happy dress shopping!

Wed2B or try Recycle on Rock My Wedding for a second hand. There's also some great etsy shops. And some Hugh Street shops have a wedding collection. Depends what you're after. I'm sure you'll find something. My friend had a nightmare and ended up buying a Wed2B dress 2 weeks before the wedding and got it altered too.

Wed2b are great! I bought my dress there and took it home on the same day, then the seamstress I'm using needed 8 weeks for alterations in the busy summer season. I'm having the hem taken up, straps added and a bustle put in. I have my final fitting in 2 weeks time which will be 3-4 weeks before our wedding.
