Wedding dress - Plus size

Eleonora, 17 June, 2022 at 10:03 Posted on Wedding Attire 0 6

Hello,

I am getting married in August 2023. I am a size 18/20 and I am not too sure where to start to find a dress.

What makes things more complicated as well is that I would like to have a mix and match set (separates) rather than a full blown dress because I want to be able to use it again in the future in separate occasions.

Any tips?

Thanks!

Hi, I went yesterday to a bridal boutique and found my dress I’m between a 20-22. Most boutiques do a range of all Sizes ir was the first question I asked as I knew i might have to size up 2/3 sizes as bridal sizes are totally different to normal sizes it just depends on the collection.
What I would recommend doing is booking in at one boutique to begin with then if you don’t find anything book another.
I went in thinking I wanted a very basic plain dress and I’ve came away with quite literally the opposite so be open to different ideas! When we went in the lady asked us to pick out 10 that I liked and she used some of them and played some wild cards (which is what my dress was) and I loved it! They’re very experienced in the boutiques and take into account everything you might want but then some times put a spin on it. I hope this helps you x

Hi, finally a bride the same size as me! I have a body type in which I’m top heavy then have wide hips too so I struggle to get things that actually suit my body. I’ve decided after going to a bridal shop that I’m going to look online, most likely Monsoon as their wedding dresses can go up to size 22.

Hi, I recommend Emma Dee on Etsy. Her options are beautiful, and separates are there - all made to measure and very reasonable.

I am getting a custom dress, for £750.

    Hey
When I was shopping for my dress I asked when booking if they had plus size dresses. That way I knew there would be dresses that fit and I would be able to enjoy the day of trying on dresses (I hate trying on clothes). It was a lovely experience but I would recommend checking with the shop first to avoid disappointment. While booking ask do they have separates.
I found my dream dress in the first shop and it was a sample dress on sale so I was delighted. I hadn't planned on buying a sample dress bit it was just the one I love it was a 1/3 of my dress budget. My parents had given me money towards the dress but what the gave ended up covering it . I just have to get it altered for the wedding as it is to big. Enjoy xx
