Wedding hates and dislikes

Sorry if this has been done before - I'm sure it has - but I haven't seen a similar topic since I've been a member, so I thought I would get a light hearted discussion going! What things do you REALLY dislike at weddings, and what do you just not like very much? personally I really don't like it...

What things do you REALLY dislike at weddings, and what do you just not like very much?

personally I really don't like it when the bride and groom does a 'funny' first dance. I'm sure some people like it and find it funny, but I just find it super cringe and naff.

This might be a bit controversial, but I also really don't like vintage / birdcage themes anymore. They were lovely when they first started, but after seeing them at every other wedding, I think they've just gotten a bit meh. Again though I'm fully open to other people's tastes and if the bride or groom loves this look, then I still believe they should have what they want without caring what others think.

    Swirly waistcoats.

    Scatter crystals.

    Cadbury purple.

Formal weddings including sit down meals.

    Birdcages.

    Bridezillas.

    Sweetie table.

    Really looong 'funny' speeches.

Crap DJs - I always feel bad for the B&G if they are *** as they can make or break the evening do.

I am begrudging paying for chair covers too.

Weddings where there are no personal touches and songs are just chosen because the brides likes them rather than they are personal to the couple

Ugly or patterned carpets in the venue.

Noisy kids during the ceremony and speeches.

I agree noone should take this personal, I am having a couple of things like a BBQ for wedding breakfast, chair covers, not providing a free bar or loads of drinks (just standard ones) because we can't afford it and getting people to sign the guestbook - I spent a full day putting our photobook together, digging up old photos of us and writing all the captions - kind of an 'our story' - people will be signing that book if I have to force the pen onto them myself! ?

I had too much wine on the tables.

My sister spent the entire last hour puking in the kitchen sink.

My cousin had his wedding other week. and what he and his bride did was different but to me was dissapointing. instead of a cake. they had a cheese tower. different but not to everyone taste. as well as the slight smell. my youngest brother said what about the cake? (he is a fussy eater, my aunt had bought him a little cupcake to have instead) but the cheese tower didn't really go down well.

its ok to be different but when its soooo out there, its like just a statement not practical. (they had been trying to get info on my wedding but wouldn't let any info out - their original date to 'beat me up the aisle' was the day before my wedding, i told them no along with my imediate family). my dad had only told my auntie 'if you know our Amy, the day will be unique and fun'.

This isn't really *different* anymore. I've been to 3 weddings with cheese cakes in the last year. ?

The thing that annoys me most is people who have things to be "original". Like owls carrying the rings, or sweetie buffets, or hog roasts. These aren't original. Original would be an owl roast. Or sweets carrying the rings.

I dont like swirly waistcoats at all but OH is having one (fortunately the groomsmen are all in ivory waistcoats) because I let him shop alone (and to be honest the rest of the waistcoats the store had were either horrible or the wrong colour!

    Yes we're having burgundy

Also mirrors under centrepieces (which are fairly tall)

A sit down meal - but we DO have choices!

Speeches after the meal (only short i hope)

Crazy swirly carpet (on the plus side its 99% dark red) and i wasnt about to choose a venue based on the carpet

Chair covers (to hide icky cheap chairs)

An accidental vintagey theme, but only really with a brooch on the cake and a few brooches within the bouquet

Matchy bridesmaids dresses (im too lazy to shop for 4 seperate ones!) but shoes and hair etc i couldnt care less about

I have ivory shoes but only because i couldnt find any flat shoes i liked and they were cheap!

To be honest though most of these things are either accidents or just included in the venue price!

I'm suprised by how many objections there are to black bridesmaids. I must have poor taste!

    I dislike

Cadbury purple, red or hot pink themed weddings

    Crystals on the tables

    Mirror plates

    Organza bows on chairs

    Conference room venues

Church weddings because they look pretty rather than for religious weddings

    cravats and swirly waistcoats

    sweetie buffets

    photo booths

    magicians

    kids

Back fat hanging over the brides dress

    strapless dresses

    dresses with coloured panels

    tiaras that look cheap

'individual' shoes that in reality are a million other brides version of 'unique'

vintage theme esp birdcages. Not because i think it's ugly but just because it's on every blooming wedding mag going

    buffets as the main meal

I'm sure there are more but I'll stop now!

    Mirror centrepieces

    Tall glass vases/martini glasses

    Satin shoes

    Plain wedding dresses

    Tiaras

    Tight curled bridal hair

    Birdcages

Too much bling - on a belt or dress

Fingerprint trees or any other non-standard guest book

    Money poems

    buffet main meals

    Fruit cake

    Icing on anything

    carpets in venues

    hotels

Getting married in a place of worship, when you aren't religious or don't regularly attend.

    Tea-length wedding dresses

    Bird cage veils

Dove releases, birds of prey as ring bearers, butterfly releases ..all unnecessary and cruel.

Bridesmaid dresses that aren't floor length.

Guests or other bridal party members in white/cream.

Black grooms suit and swirly waist coat, unfortunately O/H is sorting suits and I have no say...fingers crossed he chooses wisely... ?

Another one I've just remembered and its not something the bride/groom can control but it's guests in jeans or looking generally scruffy. I see pictures pop up on facebook of guests looking like they've put no effort in whatsoever!

Three course sit down meal - Too formal and stuffy, I'd rather have a buffet, can choose what I want and eat as much of it as I want!

    Receiving lines - Sooo pointless.

    Black weddings - It's not a funeral?

Poorly fitted chair covers - Also look awful when they're really creased.

Most of all I hate it when there are no personal touches to the day and it just feels like it could be anyone's wedding.

Hiya Mrs M to be. I am also marrying an Aberdeen support (and a Man U supported) and was concerned about him wanting that in corporated into the wedding! He suggested naming the tables after football players but I said no as I can't stand football! I told him I would look into Pittodrie as a possible venue but only because we are getting married during football season so I knew it wouldn't be possible! Thankfully he understands that it wouldn't be fair since I'm not into football to inflict a 'football theme' on our wedding!!

Anyways, good to see a fellow Aberdeen bride to be on here!! ? x

Haha, that's funny! My fiancé pulled my leg about Pittodrie. But really, I don't think he was joking! Haha. AND he said about naming the tables after players! There was just no way we were having anything football related. Especially RED and football related!

Don't think I've spotted any other Aberdeen brides on here yet! Where are you getting married? We're at Banchory Lodge

Haha that sounds like a fun game to play. At a wedding next weekend so I'll keep it in mind. My bridesmaids are all in same colour with a different neckline and not a single one of them opted for strapless so not going to be an issue for me. ?

What a fun idea for a thread. Good to see there's so much difference of opinion, means all our weddings will be unique! The things I hate are:

Flowergirls in ivory dresses but with white socks, mirrored glass under centre pieces, pointlesscheap favours, tulips swirled round in a fishbowl, chicken wrapped in bacon for every wedding I've been to in last 3 years, buffet as wedding breakfast, guest books with over the top engagement pictures, no canapés but a long hungry gap, brides who wear chicken fillets and it's all everyone talks about all day, bridesmaids wearing matching everything, full on snogs at altar, bride and groom going awol for an hour or more for photos, badly behaved children, no activity bags/anything for children, and groomsmen in swirly waistcoats, cravat, tails etc - yuk!

You would hate mine. The tables are named after the Arsenal Invincible team and they will be laid out in the formation they played in (and I really hoping someone notices for his sake! At my sisters wedding, my OH is the only one to notice that the tables which were cricket positions were actually in the right layout) and this is our table plan...I hate football but love that this is so him!

My OH is an Aberdeen supporter too! But he's lived in England for years (we live in London) and he's not shown an interest in putting anything from it in the wedding.

He does want to splurge on getting a full hospitality box at Pittodrie one day when he's up there visiting though...probably cost as much as the wedding!

Still quite amused by the whole Chimney Sweep thing though (never heard of it until last night) and now think I might want one ?
