Wedding hates and dislikes

Sorry if this has been done before - I'm sure it has - but I haven't seen a similar topic since I've been a member, so I thought I would get a light hearted discussion going! What things do you REALLY dislike at weddings, and what do you just not like very much? personally I really don't like it...

What things do you REALLY dislike at weddings, and what do you just not like very much?

personally I really don't like it when the bride and groom does a 'funny' first dance. I'm sure some people like it and find it funny, but I just find it super cringe and naff.

This might be a bit controversial, but I also really don't like vintage / birdcage themes anymore. They were lovely when they first started, but after seeing them at every other wedding, I think they've just gotten a bit meh. Again though I'm fully open to other people's tastes and if the bride or groom loves this look, then I still believe they should have what they want without caring what others think.

Still no clearer on why you would want a chimney sweep at the wedding though. What would he do? dance around like Dick van *** maybe?

When I googled it, the pictures just seem to show them standing next to guests looking a bit grubby (the sweep that is, not the guests...in most cases)

That's it. They don't do anything. They are just a symbol of good luck (something to do with a royal wedding if I remember correctly).

They do however carry long sticks which could be useful for knocking passing cyclists of their bikes. (That reference will only make sense to one other person, sorry)

I think it's supposed to be good luck for the bride (and maybe groom too?) to shake a chimney sweep's hand on the way to the wedding. Though these days a lot of it is just a photo op.

Oooh, that's one of mine - doing/planning anything wedding-related purely on the basis that it will be a good photo opportunity.

    Ooh fun post! Here goes...

brides with 'crispy' tendrils ( over hair sprayed, over curled hair)

cake toppers that are made to look like the bride and groom

tiaras - as someone said on made in Chelsea if you don't have a family one, you shouldn't be wearing one!

    Children

    animals

pop songs used as entrance music during service

civil services - unless done really well they just seem a bit quick and not personal, I get the non religious thing though

    weddings in hotel conference rooms

    money poems

    bouquet throwing

serving evening buffet an hour after you've finished a 3 course meal

now ill go back to dreaming about my strapless dress, religious service and matching bridesmaid!

And this is why I had a dress with straps! I've been to a few weddings where the bride is constantly pulling her dress back up- not a good look. So I dislike strapless dresses too.

Receiving lines - formal, awkward. Hate them!

    Cadburys purple

Anything to do with animals, dove releasing, owls flying with the rings etc

Big boobed brides in dresses that have no or little support and need hoiking up

    Satin wedding dresses

    Money poems

    Wedding dresses with colours in

Red (just don't like it as a wedding colour)

People thinking their sweetie buffet, fingerprint tree, cupcake tower is original. It isn't. I'm not saying I don't like them, but original they ain't.

Hot pink. It's pink, what's hot about it?

Ivory satin bridal shoes. They all look the same and they'll never be worn again!

Personally, there's nothing I really *hate* about the way people do their weddings; as long as it works for them as a couple, it's fine with me Smiley smile

We deliberately only looked at venues that didn't need chair covers; one because I don't really like them, but also I resent the extra cost and the idea that a venue has got sh*t chairs in JUST so they can charge you for covers.

My only real hate is the rip off attitude of the majority of wedding suppliers/venues/caterers/hotels - just *mention* the word wedding and the price skyrockets! :/

    Second that.

Only made worse by it being an Xmas wedding, with roses and a dress with a burgundy panel.

Sorry I'm still obsessing about this, but I've cracked the chimney sweep mystery!!

In Great Britain it is considered lucky for a bride to see a chimney sweep on her wedding day. Many modern British sweeps hire themselves out to attend weddings in pursuance of this tradition

Thank god we all hate/love different things... otherwise we'd all have identikit weddings. So many of you would have hated my wedding ?.... birds of prey featured heavily, it was a red and white theme, I wore a tea dress and we had a cake of cheese.

    My personal hates are:

    Massive big wedding dresses

Noisy children during the service... and the parents not having the good grace to remove them

    Tall centrepieces/mirrors

    Over matched weddings

Updos....especially when the bride doesn't normally have long hair

Brides with far to much make-up

    Horse and carriages

    Not enough booze :-)

A 'little' off topic since its nothing i dislike about the wedding itself but the memento. Graphistudio photobooks, people love'em! I cant. the design is far too busy for my liking (motion blurs, colour gradients, funky photo borders) I like my 'art gallery' style and 'white space'. If the art aka photo is good it should speak for itself.

On top of that, spot colour photos. the ones where its B&W and one thing is in colour like the brides bouquet. I find it draws focus to the wrong thing in the photo.

these are just some small designer 'twitches' for me. (that and COMIC SANS D: )

Haha yes and I thank you for all of your inventive ways of trying to derail these cyclists (for the benefit of others, Guy is going to be our Toastmaster and we recently found out that a cycle race is coming past our venue just as the ceremony is due to start, causing road blocks and delays for people trying to get in and out of the venue) but I worry that these tactics will just make them take longer! What we should be doing is changing the road signs and re-routing them via France or something.

And the above of course brings me to what I hate at weddings - cycle races! But I appreciate that might just be specific to me...
