Wedding hates and dislikes

Sorry if this has been done before - I'm sure it has - but I haven't seen a similar topic since I've been a member, so I thought I would get a light hearted discussion going! What things do you REALLY dislike at weddings, and what do you just not like very much? personally I really don't like it...

What things do you REALLY dislike at weddings, and what do you just not like very much?

personally I really don't like it when the bride and groom does a 'funny' first dance. I'm sure some people like it and find it funny, but I just find it super cringe and naff.

This might be a bit controversial, but I also really don't like vintage / birdcage themes anymore. They were lovely when they first started, but after seeing them at every other wedding, I think they've just gotten a bit meh. Again though I'm fully open to other people's tastes and if the bride or groom loves this look, then I still believe they should have what they want without caring what others think.

    So what do you get
    For the bride and groom
    Whose house needs things
    In every room?
    When shopping for a present please don't be rash
    As there is always the option
    To just give cash!
    We hope you don't find
    Our request to be funny
    But we really would appreciate
    A gift of money

    We've been together for a few years now;
    We have pots and pans and linen and towels;
    We have glasses and toasters, really quite a few;
    So instead of more gifts, we suggest this to you;
    If it doesn't offend and it won't send you running;
    What we would really appreciate is quite simply money;
    We know choosing gifts can be such a pain;
    And this way there is no chance of bringing the same

    To save you looking, shopping or buying.
    Here is an idea, we hope you like trying!
    Come to our wedding, to wish us both well.
    And make some use of our little wishing well.
    Just put some money into a card,
    Now make a wish.....see that wasn't hard!
    Now that we have saved you, all that fuss.
    We hope you will come, and celebrate with us.
    Please don't be offended at this type of request,
    As our day will be complete having you as our guest.

    Oh god ... it back!!

    and wow JJKCB! You have quite the vendetta on weddings! In all honesty, I've stopped giving a toss on what weddings have or don't have or what I like or don't. The only thing that actually gets me now is cringeworthy over sexualized behaviour at weddings and rude people (guests or wedding party) THAT i don't like at wedding.

    Really? most of them have been mentioned by most other people aswell... I so obviously hate weddings that why ive spent my who life collecting wedding things and working in the industry lol

    I just hate the modern tacky things people do that scream cheap - there are so many thing that you now know where done because they ran out of money like:

    free function room hire in the local

    Iceland buffets

    home made cupcake cakes

    etc... and they all now look the same

    I like the colour green.... Actually love the colour green!

    and no my bridesmaids don't look like they are wearing baby poo, sick or boogie!

    Oh and they are not wearing the same dresses either!

    now I'm worried I've made 2 big mistakes and my wedding is just going to be god damn awful!

    LMAO!

    good thing I don't give a toss what other people think and working withing the wedding industry doesn't give your opinion more credit... ?

    I don't think there is a person on here that hasn't had something on here from there wedding listed! Good thing is it doesn't matter...

    BOOM!!

    Hehe but no, just in your post I could sense your frustration JJKCB. some of these thing got to me at first, especially when i first started planning (primarily the Bride Cult thing) but lately I've gone very 'meh' on

    the running out of money thing thou I think you have a point, like people add something in but have no time or budget left but want it in there anyway, like feature creeps in videogames.

    There's a whole lot of hate in this thread, I hope none of you are coming to my wedding! ?

    There are definitely lots of things I've seen that I wouldn't personally consider having but I wouldn't say I hate any of them.

    I didn't realise chair covers were so widely disliked! I think they're quite nice as you can match the sash to your colour scheme and hide any unsightly venue chairs! I'll definitely have some, hope my guests don't mind lol!

    I am not a fan of toastmasters, green or red colour schemes (apart from at xmas), gift lists or tea party themes!

    I think my wedding is perfect for myself and my hubby, we've picked every thing together and it reflects our lifestyle. There's lots of stuff i don't like but I just won't have it at my wedding and I'm pretty sure some of the things I am having (chair covers, sweet buffet, strapless dress) other people don't like but that's what makes every wedding unique! Personally I have really enjoyed reading other peoples likes and dislikes even if they do differ to mine!

    lol I warned that it was an unpopular opinion and this is meant to be an area for adults and a thread for fun

    I never said my opinions where more important but this is a fun thread on opinions mine are just as free to be voiced as your, if your having that thats your choice I hope you enjoy your day - im having things other people dislike that are mentioned here but im not spitting the dummy out lol

    working in the industry was only mentioned due to the 'i hate weddings' comment, if I did I wouldnt work around them :s that would be like being a midwife and hating babies lol

    Just thought of 3 more:

    orange brides - this never looks good especially when wearing white

    tattoos in wedding dresses - I love tattoos, I have them myself but something tragic about tattoos bursting out of wedding dresses especially those terrible little devil/cartoon tattoos loads of people got on their arm or shoulder 10 years ago when they where drunk that are now all sun faded and blurred (im holding off on getting some until after im married just so I dont have that problem)

    fire lanterns - fire, fire, FIRE... huge hazard many fires are started due to these and they will be banned soon

    Ah if you look at page one the link is in there. I've just had a read and it's hilarious all over again. Sadly it's locked so we can't bump it. I reckon that has to win 'thread of the year' at the hitched awards.

    I'll join in the hate!

    Hate pretentious snobby family members that try to make the day about them. Some of my uni mates who have got married are from quite posh families and have parents/grandparents that pay for their weddings, resulting in the day itself being overly formal and traditional, and frankly boring and not reflecting the couple's personalities.

    To illustrate, there have been 2 such weddings I've been to when telegrams were read out during the speeches from guests who were unable to attend. First of all surely you RSVP'd and therefore its not news that youre not there on the day. Secondly, what makes you so important that you think you deserve your message to be read out publicly to everyone present at the wedding breakfast? I made the effort to go and i dont expect my card or guestbook entry to be read out. Thirdly, if you cared that much why didnt you go to the wedding? Fourthly, telegram? Use email you stuck up victorian weirdo.

    Another example that others have said- the couple gets married in a church because thats what their granny wants. Gone are the days when people from other families will look down their nose at you because your grandchild didnt marry in god's presence. Move with the times!

    Have also been to a wedding where most of the brides dads speech was thanking various guests of high status e.g. CEO of tesco, various athletes, an actor no one had even heard of.

    Also can't stand it when parents invite you to the wedding of their daughter to so-and-so. Its hers and her fiances wedding not yours and clearly you just want to show that you paid for the day. Again, pretentious and self-centered.

    To show I'm not completely rajjed, I actually don't mind chair covers. What's the alternative? S*** chairs! Lesser of 2 evils in my opinion.

    absolute hate for them! I dont hate people for having them, I understand why they want or need them. I have to tell you about 'Chair Cover Gate 2013' as it was dubbed in our house. Our chairs aren't bad but Mr Groomzilla wanted chair covers to make it 'prettier' which was a firm NO. I didn't want chair condoms (phase coined by my lovely ant) it was new chairs on hire or uncovered chairs. My lovely OH tried to sway me resulting in a loud, childish and highly funny play fight. after laughing it off we decided to look at some sort of alternative. We contacted a venue dresser and looked at the portfolio and decided on side sashes with pom poms, no covers. Should look nice.

    at the end of the day its for one room for 30 mins (restaurant chairs are BEAUTIFUL i would never cover them. they may in fact go missing and end up in my house!) Were tarting them up and distracting the eyes, the trick to design!

    Hahaha!

    I agree with shitty tattoos as well, my cousin has a blurry tigger and it's all smudged now and everything :/ I can't talk as I have a few and not hid away either, have a 6 inch tattoo of prince john from disneys robin hood too, but it's well done i'd like to think haha.

    I can understand people covering up their tattoos if they're shite though and the neddy / chavvy type Smiley smile

    I hate too much cleavage showing as well, watched 4 weddings last night and saw a strapless ill fitted dress and the bride was jumping up and down constantly pulling it up...looks very cheap Smiley sad

    Finally finished the other thread (im a bit slow lol) and I dont want to open old wounds but im deeply offended by some comments...

    cats are awesome and should never be trained like dogs...

    you leave a dog in the house to pop to the shops and they destroy everything, eat your food and sh*t on the floor

    you leave a cat in the house to pop to the shops and they sleep the whole time and dont even realize you've gone

    so neh-neh cats rule lol (even though im allergic to them and have a dog instead ?)

    and some of us students are old farts that didn't go to uni with everyone else but instead took 8 years out to chase pretty boys with instruments and long hair up and down the country ?

    on a serious not its funny how the offended people where the only offensive people, how can people not see their own hypocrisy? you cant be both

    I don't know why people got so offended haha, I always think of this quote in these circumstances..

    "We are so vain that we even care for the opinion of those we don't care for."
