What colour Aga should we get (with pics)

Becca, 22 August, 2009 at 21:39 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 20

We need to replace our 1930s Aga, which is becoming less and less eficcient, and it seems after getting several quotes we will be better off replacing it. Our current one is cream, and it is what H grew up with so he can't imagine anything else there.

I've never been a massive fan of the cream, think its a bit of a grubby colour, but maybe that's just ours!!

So here's a pitcure of the current kitchen - we inherited it from the in-laws, so the blue and pine units aren't entirely my thing either, but we won't be redoing the units/flooring for another year or two (once we recover from the cost of the new Aga!!).

What colour would you go for??

My parents have a raeburn (sp?) in a blue and it goes really nicely with cream cupboards.

RED! If I were to ever have an aga it would have to be pillar box red!

I don't really have an opinion - I think the cream is nice tbh - but can I have your house please? ?

Ooo what a lovely kitchen and Aga! I would personally stick with the cream...works well with the blue.

I have cream as I thought it would go with anything. I love the lilac one in the Aga shop in Truro. I have bought pink and lilac Aga wear to help me with my obsession with the lilac one?

Thanks all. I like - but not in love with - the dark blue, dark green and claret, as well as the black and the cream, but H says he doesn't like any of the colours, esp not the 'signature' ones like the lilac you mention titchbunny. I do like the jade of the signature colours, but am sure I would tire of it eventually.

If you could only go for cream or black, which would you go for...... (bearing in mind the black might get me new flooring (and therefore probably kitchen units) sooner as it would clash a bit with the brown ?

Its a traditional farmhouse, but we both lean towards slightly more modern styles - so we've been chucking out the floral wallpaper etc that mum in law had done 30yrs ago, without loosing beams/original features like the exposed granite in the kitchen. I think that worktop unit combo in the pic above would be the sort of thing we would go for, esp compared to the units we have at the mo which have old fashioned looking twiddly pine bits that i'm itching to get rid of!

I think I love the black, but I'm so indecisive, esp when it's going to be there for the rest of my lifetime!! I'm wondering if the black will be a pain in the bum for showing up fingerprints.....

We have a red one but I'm not sure it would go with the blue cupboards?

What a fabulously big aga you've got i'm quite green eyed!!

We've got a cream range (it was here when we bought this house) but we've got harlequin tiles (dark red, green, yellow, cream) in a random pattern with cream cupboards so it all works in quite well together. When it comes time to replace our range (hopefully a long way off yet) i think i'd go for either black or red.

In your kitchen I think the options would probably be cream or black. Seeing as you're thinking of having a revamp sometime in the next few years then I'd not opt for anything too radical. If you're not overly taken with the cream then i'd go for black.

Ooo I like the black because I think it is quite classic and would (like the cream) go with everything over the years

My mate had the same red one (and the same blind!!) as SuSu in her old house and it looked fab.. but I did wonder if it would date iyswim in the same way as my friends mum's green cooker did / does. So if you don't love the blue I probably wouldn't go for it.

As its such a big investment plus you don't want it to look like the old one I would definitely change the colour though so black is my vote!

I think you should have black. I like the cream, but I think black would modernise the look of your kitchen a bit without going too far if that makes any sense whatsoever!

(I want your kitchen. It looks so cosy!)

I love the black one, it's modern but not too radical and will go with most styles of kitchens.

I think the black looks really smart and stylish, and would go with a more modern style kitchen without clashing with the farmhouse features. My only worry would be that the room looks rather dark and black will add to that rather than helping to brighten it. But that may just be the photo.

I love the cream Aga, and think that it is the only colour to have an Aga. Brings me back to my childhood and great gran's kitchen.

I'd be worried about fingermarks and splash marks with the black I think. Cream is probably the best neutral colour but I understand why you want a change - you need to be able to 'see' where you've spent all that money. Of the coloured ones I'd probably go for light to mid blue- perhaps turquoise.

Cream if you're going for wooden cupboards, black if you're going for cream/ white cupboards.

I agree with Morrigan, the black is lovely but such a large expanse of black could make the kitchen very dark.

I have a cream Aga and agonised over it for ages before deciding, carrying aroung sample floor tiles and cupboard doors in my car to compare. Our was very nearly claret or navy blue.
