What is your starter for your wedding breakfast?

janey2000, 31 of July of 2010 at 16:57 Posted on Planning 0 33

My H2B would win the world's fussiest eater title. We need a starter and the one we picked (baked breaded brie) was so bad (frozen!?) when we had our menu tasting that it has scared us. They have offered to design a starter for us if we would like, but i've no idea what! What is everyone having, or even better, can you flash your menu! It can't be soup, fish, anything that contains garlic or spices (i.e Indian or mexican) and I want something a bit fancier than melon! Oh and I liked the idea of a little tartlet but the vegetrain option we picked is a roasted veg and cheese tart so thought it'd be too much for them.

Thanks ?

Hi Janey! We've gone for a leek and potato soup. Both our parents are fussy eaters and wont eat anything too complicated so our menu is pretty standard!

Thank you for your quick replies. The soups are a no no! He wouldn't eat smoked salmon and both don't like pate! Don't have many options do I?!

He is a traditional meat and 2 veg man! I even heard his mum say the other day 'I tried pasta once when we were on holiday!' ?

your menu's all sound lovely though

A few suggestions, (all these will depend on the rest of your menu of course)

A collection of mini starters (canapes on a plate style) then H2B can give you the ones he doesn't like ?

Melon can be done quite fancy with a raspberry coulis or a mixed berry sauce

if you have the budget - how about smoked duck with a small salad and either a raspberry coulis or an orange marmalade.

    Hope that helps

Oops sorry I misread your post! I still have a hangover from last night! (Thats my excuse!)

What about breaded mushrooms - but without the garlic? Or with garlic sauce on the side so everyone else can dip if they want and OH can just have the mushrooms?

Just as another suggestion how about a potato stack? Basically a potato rosti on the bottom and the top with layers of veggies (or meat) inbetween and a complimentary sauce.

Or a mini potato gratan with a cheesey sauce (possible putting parma ham or bacon in the sauce)

Can you tell I cook for a living lol ?

What about half a stuffed pepper? You could have it stuffed with rice, or cheese or other vegetables. Or stuffed aubergine?

Getting hungry just thinking about it!!! x

well Im afraid we're going for the good old fashioned vegetable soup and bread roll! You could do a spicy tomato soup with ciabata or something like that if you liked! or spicy vegetable maybe? We had the choice on ours of mushroom, leek and potato, tomato and basil, or carrot and coriander soup. So theres a few more wee ideas for ya!

We had asparagus, parma ham and a balsamic glaze with a parmsean crisp, and a caramelised onion tart for the veggies. The former might tick his not too fussy but tasty box?

We're having melon, mainly because we have lots of allergies and this covers everyone!

My Dad and my niece have Coeliac disease and my niece has only recently been diagnosed (she's 7) so I don't want her to feel different by being given a different meal, trying not to draw attention to it. We also have a nut allergy and a vegetarian so melon covers everyone, even if it is boring!

Mmmm...can I come please?!! We still haven't decided on our menu. I printed off a copy in an effort to narrow the choices down. Ended up putting a tick next to pretty much every starter, main & dessert! Doh! ?

I think we might go for a vegetable-arian option... Goats cheese, thyme & olive tapenade tartlet/ crab & salmon fish cakes (I know these aren't veggie) or brie, roasted pepper and caramelised onion tartlet/ butternut squash & sage risotto...

    Too many choices!!
